This may be a strange question but...

Does anyone know if Disney offers any kind of discount to Police, Firefighters, or EMT's ? Just Wondering

Just called Disney to check this out and got the most ignorant CM I have ever spoke with. When I asked if Disney offeres discounts for Firefighter or EMT's (which I am both) she said No! Disney only give discounts to miltary guest, an hung up..HOW RUDE IS THAT

I think that's crazy. I mean I understand how hard our military work and the great amount of danger they are put into everyday, but so are those who serve the people here at home. We are also put in very dangerous / life threating situations everyday. I just think that is very sad :sad2:

Well I thanks for the help everyone and for letting me vent.

Stay safe and say a prayer for EVERYONE who puts others before themselves

That was very rude of her. I get so frustrated with rude people. If someone doesn't like dealing with people, they shouldn't work in customer service!

My DH is a firefighter and we have asked before and been told that the only discounts were for military. :firefight

(P.S. to our military members - a big THANK YOU for serving our country!) :grouphug:

I believe they have run "appreciation" specials for a particular month. I think not long after 9/11 they did one & after that spree of wildfires a few years a go but I don't think there is a concrete time.

You may want to call back & ask if they know when "Firefighter appreciation month" is - just sounding as if you know that there definately is one may make the res agent try to look it up.

Good luck!

My DH is a firefighter and ex-military... I am glad he is out though I mean a discount at Disney would be great but ya know I am not up for him going overseas!!!

My husband is a correctional officer at a maximum security prison...so I understand the "dangerous job"....too bad there aren't discounts for those who serve the community.

We got a discount for our resort stay and DH got a free ticket after 9/11. This was wonderful, as he was ordered to work six (and occasionally seven) days a week during that time. I believe that was the only occasion where we were entitled to these types of discounts. I know I've heard the Swan/Dolphin offering discount to government employees, but we usually opt for a Disney value resort with an AP discount. I would love to see a regular discount for policemen/firefighters/teachers (and related occupations), even if it was just a very small percentage, it would certainly make these hard workers feel acknowledged. I know some people will argue, well if policemen deserve discounts, why not chemists, or factory workers, or _____ (fill in the blank).

4fordisney- My dad is also a correctional officer at a prison. We are elgible for a discount only on a place to stay. We aren't taking advantage of it, but you can rent a suite in weekly increments for something like $250 US. It is for all government employees, American and Canadian. Most of them hold 4 people comfortably. Also, through this website, my dad could buy gift certificates, that way, if anyone in my family wants to go by themselves, we also can take advantage of it.

This topic has been debated before on these boards. All I can tell you (as the wife of a detective) is that you can get "government rates" at the Swan and Dolphin and many other downtown disney hotels. Last June we stayed at the Dolphin for $149 a night on the government (cop) rate. As far as I know there aren't any discounts in particular for any service related fields except armed forces - and THANK YOU DISNEY for that :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1: Way to honor those whom serve :goodvibes

My advice would be to do what we do. On my dh's salary, without the option of OT, we have a special savings account that is strickly for vacations.... we save and save and sell on ebay, save any extra... when we have enough we go on a nice vacation.

Fam4jc is right about Swan/Dolphin gov't rate.

Disney did offer what they called the American Heroes certificate after 9/11. It was for fire/police/emt who responded at the WTC, Pentagon and PA only. Even with that there was a finite number available. We were able to use DH's, which was an incredibly awesome deal (1/2 price on-site, DH ticket free, my ticket 1/2, and DD was 2 so she was free or she would have been 1/2 too).

It was nice to get a discount, but I honestly think it was as much about getting people back in the parks to spend $$ as it was about thanking those who serve the community. It also felt weird to get "perks" from such a tragedy. I'll be happy to forgo any more discounts if that also means no more terror attacks.

This thread just prompted me to call WDW to inquire about military specials as my dh is active duty Army. The CM I spoke with said there are no military offers right now. If something were to come out it would be posted on the Disney World website. I specifically asked about a one day per year complimentary visit that was a standing Disney offer (I was told about this by another military spouse). The CM said this was inaccurate info and there was no such offer, nor any current offers for military of any sort.

So don't feel bad out there. We military truly appreciate whatever offers come our way but at the same time we don't get all the goodies either.

And I thank your dh's for the services they provide to keep us safe. In this day and age our homefronts are just as much a battleground as overseas. Just pick up any local paper and read the depressing news.

Yes, my husband (state employed) can get a hotel discount at the Hotel Royal Plaza through his union, but the hotel sustained damage during the huricane and won't be ready until June and we are going in May. So no discounts for us.

Tell me more about those discounted gift certificates please! :earsboy:
