In terms of farmers, I agree.To a farmer an animal is a product, good product equals good profit period. A badly treated animal does not make a good product therefore does not make good profit. farmers do not do anything on purpose that will not produce the best result for them and mistreating there animals would do this. Most farmers take better care of their animals than they do themselves!
Well speaking for myself, I haven't forgotten that animals are not humans. I do not elevate animals to human level or above human level. I simply find no place for cruelty and abuse towards any living thing, be it animal or human. If it were just about food, shelter, and a quick throat slit...I doubt many people would be so up in arms about it. Unfortunately, when it comes to slaughterhouses, it's not as simple as that.People tend to forget that they are animals not humans and the animal world at it's best is a hard cruel world. Then again I guess people think that spending every moment of your life searching for food and shelter and if you are not careful getting caught by say a mountain lion and having your insides eaten out while you are still alive is much nicer than living in a barn with shelter and food and then having your throat slit quickly.
