This Makes Sense?

Absolutely. I eat meat, too, but I don't see the point in torturing animals before you slaughter them. Can't think that caging animals and depriving them of sun and movement makes for healthy meat, either.

I don't know if anyone on here watches Gordon Ramsay's F Word in BBC America, but he has been doing segments on "where food comes from". They showed how a pig was slaughtered, gutted and cut for food. They also showed some of the conditions the animals are kept in.

I definitely think it matters.

Read Fast Food Nation - that will give you an idea of where some of our meat comes from.

Yes it does make sense. Just because I eat meat doesn't mean the animal should be tortured its whole life before it dies.

I don't know. I understand the premise of it but it just seems absurd to worry about them and then kill them. Kind of backwards to me.

Honeslty I agree with you.

Does eating meat from animal that is kept in cramped quarters with other animals that aren't allowed to move around and are made to stand in their own feces and urine sound appetizing to you?

Seriously - read Fast Food Nation. It will give you a whole new look at this industry and how animals and meat are handled before it makes it to your table.

Truthfully, if I really think about what I'm eating, I would eat very little. The thought of eating meat from a cow or a chicken is really gross, so I try not to think about it. Also, eating veggies that are grown in the ground and covered with dirt and bugs doesn't do much for my appetite either.

I really try not to think about where food comes from at all.

It makes sense to me. I stopped eating meat for two reasons. One of them was for health reasons (for some unknown reason, my body doesn't process protein from meat very well at all) and the other reason was because of the treatment of animals prior to their death. I understand that ultimately they will be killed, but that doesn't excuse abuse towards the animal while they are alive. And yes, it is abuse, absolutely terrorizing torture to these animals.

No I really dont care where it comes from as long as its not fake meat or mouse..lol. But no I dont think its gonna taste any different if the animal is free to walk or not. Ill have to read the book, have heard a lot about it.

And yes I have been to the peta site and seen the different videos that they have abou kfc and so and so, but really none of it affects me in any way. Its the food chain and that animal is birthed for slaughter period. I know not all see it that way, but that is the way i see it. I dont think im inhumane for it, i definetely dont treat my dog that way but then I'm not keeping my dog in order to eat it or make money from it selling its meat or (if it laid then, eggs). My dog is my pet.

Honestly I dont see myself ever going into Bk instead of Mcdonald's because I can order the scrambled eggs from the free roaming chickens. Seriously!

And yes just like a previous pposter I have some difficulty digesting meat, particularly red meat and pork.

The amazing thing about this, to me, is that Burger King actually thinks this move to "free range bacon" will make PETA happy with them!?!?! If you want to see what will make PETA "happy" go to YouTube and search on "Penn Teller Peta".

As for BK's announcement, it's a nice PR stunt, but I don't care one way or the other. For people that start feeling "sorry" for livestock, I encourage you to spend some time around them first. After spending time around a beef cattle herd for a while, let me assure you I have a lot fewer qualms about eating Big Macs.

I have spent time around them and I still stand by my viewpoint that certain actions towards them is abusive and no matter if they will die, NO living thing should be abused. Good for you for not feeling qualms, but that doesn't make the rest of us wrong for believing that a life should be treated better.

Well I won't be stepping one toe into any fast food restaurant any time in the near futute, but I do think it matters how an animal is treated before being slaughtered.

Fast Food Nation :scared1:

NO living thing should be abused.
Unless you're a Jeffrey Dahmer, that's a statement that impossible to disagree with... however, the Devil is in the definition.

To a farmer an animal is a product, good product equals good profit period. A badly treated animal does not make a good product therefore does not make good profit. farmers do not do anything on purpose that will not produce the best result for them and mistreating there animals would do this. Most farmers take better care of their animals than they do themselves!

People tend to forget that they are animals not humans and the animal world at it's best is a hard cruel world. Then again I guess people think that spending every moment of your life searching for food and shelter and if you are not careful getting caught by say a mountain lion and having your insides eaten out while you are still alive is much nicer than living in a barn with shelter and food and then having your throat slit quickly.

Very well said! Thanks Hannathy. As someone who makes a living off raising chickens and pork - I am glad you think this way.

We grow our animals in very safe, sanitary conditions. We want to produce the safest product possible for the consumer - why would we not?

Yes, it matters to me how feed animals are treated. I can accept that animals are going to be slaughtered for food, but I still think it's imperative that they be treated as humanely as possible and slaughtered as mercifully as possible.

It's about decency and respect for life. With power comes responsibilty. Stewardship of animals is required of us.
