It should.

A "beware of dog" sign warns people about getting too close to the house. Neighbors say for good reason, after they've seen a two-year-old pit bull get loose. In the past, its owner was able to control it in time. But on Wednesday, that was not the case.

This was an unstable dog. The first time the owner was 'able to control him' they should have considered putting the dog down.

A stable pit bull temprament is NOT human aggressive. That should have set off alarms, flashing lights, warning bells to the owner. Its obvious this was not a responsible one.

I know that in reality, ANY animal can attack. But why does it always seem to be pitbulls??
Because it's in their nature and they are often trained to be aggressive. Very sad, I feel so sorry for that family.

:rolleyes1 So the owner in the second incident (in which the pit bull bit a 12 y.o. boy) says her dog is friendly, has never bitten anyone before and that it's all (about) "how they're raised." :scared1: Does she fail to see the irony in that statement? Her precious doggy bit someone, but it's all in how they are raised? Well, it appears she "raised" a biter. :lmao: Seems both she and her dog need to keep their mouths shut.

Once again, by the time a "gentle and loving" pit bull shocks its owner by turning aggressive, the harm will have been done and it's way too late for damage control. How many times will we have to hear, "But he's never hurt anyone else before! He's always been such a sweetie!" Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat. It's like someone keeps posting the same story over and over again because it's just so sadly predictable.

I hope we see a ban on all Pits in neighborhoods and cities.

That poor little girl. She is going to have to go though so much and then her poor little head is probably never going to look the same. That is so sad.

the other mom that said her little 5 year old son wants his dog back (the one that bit the 12 year old). If I had a dog that bit/attacked someone I'm not sure I would want it around my 5 year old.

Banned here entirely; best idea IMO. These dogs have unfortunately been bred to leave behind some very undesirable characteristics. I read some journal from a few years back which said that pit bulls have been responsible for over something like 25% of all dog-attack fatalities in the past forty years.

You get 'good' and 'bad' dogs in every breed, of course, but it seems this breed in particular has a vicious streak that makes it unsuitable as a domestic pet.

Why:confused3

I understand that there has been alot of bad press for Pits lately, but you surely understand that for all the bad ones there a many many many more that are just family pets that would never attack people. I really think there needs to be more responsible pit bull owners out there. Who teach there dogs better

We just got a ban on pits and other big dogs here on base, it's a great thing! I really don't like pit bulls for many reasons. I feel so bad for the family :(

-------------------

I think because the trend is becoming more and more often that these attacks are by the very type of pit bulls you have mentioned above..

OMG, that poor baby! That is so sad.

Two unrelated attacks with a 2 block radius by 2 different pitbulls that happened with a 2-hour time span. How can so many people continue to blindly defend them?

That poor baby. :worried:

Unfortunately until the idiots that inbreed these dogs to fight stop, this is going to keep happening. They are bred aggressive and anyone that owns one and doesn't believe it could be their "family" dog that attacks next is fooling themselves.

Different breeds were bred for different purposes. You try to get a retriever to sit still while you throw a ball - he will go absolutely insane - they are bred to retrieve, it is in their nature.

Pitbulls were bred to be agressive attack dogs, it is in their nature. We hear of Pitbull attack after Pitbull attack and the owners always tell us that their dog was calm, friendly, wouldn't hurt a flea etc.

When there are so many dog breeds out there that are far more suitable for pets, I don't understand why anyone would but their family, friends and neighbors at risk by having a Pitbull.

Blindly? I'd venture to say I know much more about the breed, then you do.

I'm sorry, but your post seems so antangonistic. Why?:confused3

A little girl just had her scalp ripped off and only 2/3 was able to be successfully re-attached.:( I think this thread is not the best place to champion the "qualities" of this breed.

Unless you are a Vet, I really don't think you are qualified to question anyone's credentials on the subject.

Yeah - read my first post on this thread.

Sadly , we learned that Dh's nephew-from the "black sheep" side of the family
(won't contribute to his ex for the kids (works for cash)..filed Bankruptcy already (35) )...that he and his wife just bought their second Pitt to raise puppies. ((shudder))) Makes me ill just thinking about it.

UGH!! There's enough dogs, let alone Pits to need to breed any. :(

Plus - thats a perfect example of why your every day Joe-Schmoe shouldnt be breeding *especially* with a breed as strong and powerful as this breed.

Human aggresive tendencies, skin problems, allergies, etc should be bred out - and the every day Joe-Schmoe doesnt do this. Which could lead to dogs like in this story.

These are a fantastic breed - when it has the typical Pit tendencies. Pits arent meant to be guard dogs. A pit who's aggressive towards people isnt 'normal'. But again, the average Joe-Schmoe doesnt see this as 'abnormal'.

As this story stated, the owner was 'able to get control of the dog several other times' - thats an unstable dog, and it's a shame she as an owner, wasnt more responsible about seeing flaws in her dog. I tend to wonder if many of the 'attack' stories, with the dog who never hurt a fly, are owners with rose-colored glasses on.

Human Aggressive tendencies are to be bred OUT of a Pit - even in the dog fighting dogs.

What happened to this girl could have been avoided had the owner known more about her dog's temprament, and not chosen to ignore it.

I know what you mean. Sadly, it is the "unsavory" people that own most of the Pit Bulls around here. They breed them to fight or whatever. Sad, very sad.

I'm in no way saying that all people that own Pits are "trash", there just seems to be a disproportionate number of "trash pit owners" around HERE.
