Sadly , we learned that Dh's nephew-from the "black sheep" side of the family
(won't contribute to his ex for the kids (works for cash)..filed Bankruptcy already (35) )...that he and his wife just bought their second Pitt to raise puppies. ((shudder))) Makes me ill just thinking about it.
UGH!! There's enough dogs, let alone Pits to need to breed any.
Plus - thats a perfect example of why your every day Joe-Schmoe shouldnt be breeding *especially* with a breed as strong and powerful as this breed.
Human aggresive tendencies, skin problems, allergies, etc should be bred out - and the every day Joe-Schmoe doesnt do this. Which could lead to dogs like in this story.
These are a fantastic breed - when it has the typical Pit tendencies. Pits arent meant to be guard dogs. A pit who's aggressive towards people isnt 'normal'. But again, the average Joe-Schmoe doesnt see this as 'abnormal'.
As this story stated, the owner was 'able to get control of the dog several other times' - thats an unstable dog, and it's a shame she as an owner, wasnt more responsible about seeing flaws in her dog. I tend to wonder if many of the 'attack' stories, with the dog who never hurt a fly, are owners with rose-colored glasses on.
Human Aggressive tendencies are to be bred OUT of a Pit - even in the dog fighting dogs.
What happened to this girl could have been avoided had the owner known more about her dog's temprament, and not chosen to ignore it.
