This mad smilie does not do justice to the rage I am feeling at the moment. I will warn you, if you read this post, it could very well have the same effect on you (that and total disgust!!) Anyway, there was a story on the national news tonight about a man in Africa who was just sentenced to life to the rape of a NINE MONTH OLD baby girl!!!! This just makes me so sick to my stomach! To make this story worse, if this is at all possible, is that many of the men who are infected with HIV believe that having sex with a child, preferably between the ages of 2 and 10, will cure them!!!!!!!!!!! The rape of young girls is quite common!!!!! They have tested this poor little baby and it does indicate that the man who attacked her does have HIV!! Some nights I just hate watching the news!!!!
Colleen
PS Sorry if I upset anyone, but this is really driving me nuts!
If I ever got my hands on any one of these men who think that doing this to a child would heal them.....well, they had better hope that the AIDS got to them first!!!!
I'm not sure if it was just here, but I saw this on ABC tonight and I am outraged that ABC aired that story. Why did they run it? What good did it do? IMHO -- sensationalism, that's what ABC is about. What good is bringing up the digusting, vile acts of some poor excuse of a human being on another continent? Were they trying to educate us to the fact that degenerates exist and are cruel to children? We know that all too well already!!! We have enough in our own backyards. ABC national news broadcasts make me sick! They are the most insensitive, irresponsible, sensationalistic national news. I've been disgusted by them ever since they showed the burning bodies that either jumped or fell from the towers on 9/11. How heartless!!! Tonights broadcast was heartless too.
Sorry Collen, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Yes that is outrageous and disgusting and he is a worthless human being.
Perhaps ABC brought it up to make people more aware of what is happening. One good thing that can come out of this is that perhaps Africa will receive more money for AIDS awareness and education.
While many people here think AIDS is not the danger that it used to be, that isn't so. It is a worldwide epidemic.
Unfortunately the large sum of money we have spent on AIDS education for Africa has been in vain. I'm not suggesting that giving up is the answer, but throwing money at the problem isn't going to solve it. I've had a few friends who went on mission trips to Africa & some of the stories they told were certainly eye opening.
While it is true that it is an epidemic around the world, percentages of the cases in the US have gone down, despite not having wide spread ads & commercials.
I heard this several years ago. And these men don't know better. Some how they've got it in their heads that a young virgin will cure them.
Frankly, I think AIDS is the least of their problems if by raping a child is something they'd do.
The people in Africa are in trouble. I've heard in some areas it's mainly grandparents that are raising the grandchildren because most of the parents are dead. In a lot of cases, so are the grandparents. There are a lot of orphans, what's worse, orphans with hiv or aids.
I was somewhere the other day and read something that said women/young girls in Africa have a much higher risk of being raped than to ever learn how to read. I can't remember the exact number. So sad.
I hope sentenced to life means only 1 day for that man. And I hope they inflect a whole lot more pain on him than he did that poor little baby.
