So...
In Missouri we have to take the MAP test.
It's state wide and every student has to take it.
Unless you are in certain grades that have a break for a year.
Like...
Freshmen and seniors don't have to.

Well...
MAP isn't a grade for us.
It just tells the state how much we have learned.
So most of us students don't care how we do on it.
I always get advanced so I get to go on field trips for my work but most people don't really care or want to try their hardest.

Well...
It's like the MAP is all the school freaking cares about.
In four of my seven classes today we were "preparing."
The test isn't until spring!
Why don't they teach instead of preaching about this stupid test that we don't even get grades for?

What I'm getting at is this...
I know that the school can get in trouble if the students don't do good...
But seriously.
Can't they chill for like... two seconds?
My teachers preach more then my pastor does.

Sorry.
I'm babbling.

But yeah...
Does where you are from have state wide tests?
Because they are poopy.

niiiiiiice
we have SOL 's
but i don't have to cuz i am in private school
and getting perfect was easy on the SOL but you didn't get any benefit at all

I think it is pretty dumb because here they only teach you stuff that will be on the FCAT.

Kansas has the exact same thing.
But I don't think I have to take it this year since I'm a freshman.

We have standardized tests, but we don't prepare for them at all.
They're really easy. I've scored post-college level reading since, like, fourth grade. And math is simple stuff, too. Last year, I didn't even ask for my results, lol.

We have to take the ISATS right before Spring Break -.-

AHH!

We have the PSSA's in March, and that IS ALL WE LEARN ABOUT!
In September, and every 2 months we take a practice test.
It's ridiculous.
So much time is spent on prepping for these tests,we don't learn that much.

And how much is a 5 day test going to tell about how much one person learns in 180 days?
Not even that, but what about those who aren't good test takers?
My sister, for example,is a great student...but the minute she sees that test everything blows out of her mind.
Hence, the bad test scores impacting her final grade.
It's baloney.
Also,those who guess the answers.
I can tell you on my Math PSSA,I guessed at least 25% of the questions.
How I scored Proficient (highest score possible) idk, because I am not good at math one bit.

Yeah,I strongly dislike these tests.

I feel your pain.

8th graders in the state of NJ have to take the GEPA in March. First day of sixth grade, my first class in middle school ever, I hear, "Okay you're going to have the GEPA in 8th grade. We're going to start preparing it for you now."

WTH?!

8th grade for me consisted of numerous persuasive essays, picture prompts, critical reading, math problem after math problem, and a lack of review in science.

We did so much prep for the test, my English teacher was flipping out mid January, I think. It was INSANE, to say the least.

I can write a persuasive essay about anything. Name a topic, and I'll do it in 40 minutes or less.

:headache:

I think it is pretty dumb because here they only teach you stuff that will be on the FCAT.

That's how it was last year at my public school. It's because (I don't know about other states) the teachers get like a $3000 bonus if the students do good on the FCAT. So all year they're like 'ZOMG FCATZ!!11!!!!11!'

When the thing is, those tests are retardedly easy. I always get 5's (the highest score) on both math and reading. And those NRTs are a joke too. Supposedly, I'm 99% smarter than the average american kid or something like that. And the kids will look over your shoulder at your score paper and be all 'OMG she got a 99 and didn't miss any. You must be like a nerd who all they do is study!' when I've never studied for a state issued test.

But my public charter school is waay better about that sort of crap.

We do those too.
Cept they're called Provincial Assessments. I couldn't give a fooey about them, other than some of the ones you take in high school ARE marked, and you can't graduate without taking it or passing it. If you are sick those days, or you fail, you have to take a 'Learning Strategies' class that is very very boring.

Most states have standardized tests now. They have them mainly because of No Child Left Behind. So much emphasis is put on them because how well the school does decides how much money they get and if the teachers will get fired or not. So teachers really try to make the kids really prepared so they dont lose there jobs and administrators put alot of emphasis on it because without the federal money that is given to them because of the school grade theat is decided by the tests decides how many extra things they can have, like extra computers and new technology.
Yeah some school may give teachers bonuses depending on how well there students do but it all depends on the school. Some also require you to pass the test to get into the next grade and that is becoming more popular sadly.
Teaching for the tests is getting to become a huge problem too. Countries like India with no standardized tests are making 2 and 3 year olds learn multiplication. These tests really contrict what you learn. They pigeonhole you to English and Math and if you aren't good at english and reading by 2nd grade you are basically ****ed from there on out on these tests because they do alot of the math problems involving words some how and if you have trouble reading you arent going to get it right even if you know how to do the math. Not to meantion these standarized tests arent even that standard because they are still really open to interprtation.

We FCAT in Florida.
It's stupid. =/
You have to take it from 3rd to 10th grade.
In 10th if you pass then you dont have to ever take it again.

Same here, we have MCAS but Im in private school.

Now we are doing the same prep for SAT that my Mom is teaching her students to take MCAS. Well I am a junior and they are 8th graders...seems a little extreme for us to be doing the same writing prep.

We have the same thing, they're such a pain. I finally just stopped putting forth effort into them, we've been doing them so long. I've got good grades, and they have no effect on me, so I might as well just go enjoy myself.

we have MCAS. and it's all we talk about in school. the stuff the teacher teaches us is always about MCAS. they say it in every lesson. It's sucks so bad my parents hate it. I'm glad I might be going to private High School.

In Florida we have to take FCAT. And in 4th,8th,and 10th grade you also have to take a Writing Test around here.

It is awful. We don't get a grade for it but we do get our school money and I think it helps us pass to the next grade.

They are going to start preaching it to us as soon as we are done with midterms..:/

WOW, after reading all these, it makes me SO glad I go to a private school! xD

There's 7 kids in the 8th grade class. :goodvibes
