This kinda annoys me. Vent. Vent. Vent...

WOW, after reading all these, it makes me SO glad I go to a private school! xD

There's 7 kids in the 8th grade class. :goodvibes

Lucky :goodvibes .

In the elementary school I went to for 5th grade, they had a special gifted class I went to everyday for the last 2 hours of school. I was one of 7 kids.

Now I'm one of only 42 7th graders.

In Ontario we have EQAO tests that we have to take in 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th grade. Teachers don't freak out about them because they are super easy - but super long.

They cover the whole basis of reading and writing - and if you don't pass then you just continue to take them over and over again until you pass.

I live in missouri too. I hate the preps for MAP more than the actual test. We're already preparing for it too. It seems like every time we have a project, all year, it's been, "oh this'll be good for MAP prep" gaaah i hate it
We also have to take these monthly MAP prep tests called Tungsten (and for most of them we're graded for like half of it..:[)... do you have to take the tungsten?

omg I'm in 8th grade... I didn't know freshman got a year off! yay!!! No more tungsten!

we have the proOhios. i know this is hard to figure out, but im from ohio..hehe also, we have the OGT's, but im not sure if thats an ohio thing or a nation-wide thing.

Yes i HATE the MCAs,WORST THING. They put SO much pressure on us too. I'd do ANYTHING to get out of it.

Ohhh MCAS. I HATED MCAS. I graduated this past spring, but for the first 10 years of school it was all MCAS, all the time. I did end up getting the Adams scholarship (really wasn't that hard to score well in the math) and didn't even end up using it, as I went to college out-of-state. We DID have to take a practice US History MCAS in 11th grade, though. :confused3 That was weird.

I feel your pain.

8th graders in the state of NJ have to take the GEPA in March. First day of sixth grade, my first class in middle school ever, I hear, "Okay you're going to have the GEPA in 8th grade. We're going to start preparing it for you now."

WTH?!

8th grade for me consisted of numerous persuasive essays, picture prompts, critical reading, math problem after math problem, and a lack of review in science.

We did so much prep for the test, my English teacher was flipping out mid January, I think. It was INSANE, to say the least.

I can write a persuasive essay about anything. Name a topic, and I'll do it in 40 minutes or less.

:headache:

>.<
I remember the GEPA.
I was so nervous.
It killed me.

I took the PSATS this year....got my results.....horrid. Ugh.
I think we took a PACT testt too.
I can't really remember.
>.<

OMG, yes.
We have to practice everyday pretty much.
I kept track today and the MAP was mentioned 13 times.
That is about twice an hour.
I'm in 10th grade so just this year and next year and I'm done...
Thank god.

no child left behind is the stupidest thing ever.
YOU CAN NOT EDUCATE EVERYONE.

Everyone can't be an astronaut or doctor when they grow up. Someone has to clean gum off the side walks and someone has to drive the garbage truck and someone has to ask if you want fries with that. Not eveyrone is cut out for school and we are teh only country in the world fooling ourselves into thinking everyone is academically equal.

Agreed. Which is why I go to private school. The public schools are putting so much effort into educating people who don't speak the language/don't care about school, that advanced kids don't get the special attention THEY need. I agree that everyone needs a chance at a good education, but if you try, you can get a good education anywhere.

Well I'm from New York which is basically Standardized Testing Land!
We have one in 4th grade...Terra Nova I believe
then in 5th grade we have another one
and there's one in 6th grade but that was added recently
Then 8-12th we have REGENTS! Nice...we get grades and they do count.
There'a basically a regents for every subject
Then there's AP tests...

SO MANY TESTS....oh New York

Grade 3 = Math Provincial Testing.
Grade 7= English Language Arts.
Grade 8 = Math again.
Grade 9 = TWO English Language Arts in order to graduate in this province.

Well what do you do with the kids that arent smart?

Well what do you do with the kids that arent smart?

in japan, kids choose an academic or technical path, the tech path is more of learning a trade, and the academic is where you get your lawyers and such.

as a whole, we think everyone can be a doctor or a lawyer, and they simly can't. Our test scores as a whole include our future astronauts and doctors as well as our future fry cooks. which is why, as a whole, they're so low compared to every one else in the world. every one else's test scores are basically reflecting the academic paths verses the technical path students.

YES!!!!!!! And the smarter ones that have a ton of potential can't move on to a higher level than the lower level ones, and then they can't fully develop their potential. It's trying to even everybody out by bringing them to a lower level, and it's very utopian, though without the perfection. It makes me think of the short story "Harrison Bergeron." If you haven't read it, google it. It's very good :thumbsup2

Junior and Elementary school are the only compulsory grades you have to go to. They teach everyone the same stuff. Only until High School that there a choice for trade school or traditional school. I have no idea where you got the ******** idea that kids at 6 decide if they want to be a attain a higher education or not.
Where has it been definitively concluded that not everyone is capable of becoming intelligent? Contrary to the ******** youve spewed its been proven that "stupid" kids learn just as well as the smart kids if the teacher treats the "stupid" kids as smart kids.
