If you have missed any days please see my Trip Report Index
Saturday 24th June 2006
Me, Sarah, 29 (turn 30 in Florida) – only adult planner
DH, Craig, 32 loves holidays, hates planning
DD, Holly, age 9 loves rides and hoping to try Kraken, loves planning
DD, Rowan, age 7 never been on any big rides, fearless (or so she says)
Today we were up a little later as we had a reservation at 11am at Chef Mickey’s. We were on time as we reached the Magic Kingdom toll plaza. I told the cast member that we were booked into Chef Mickey’s and they waved us on. Only then did I realise that we had chosen a toll booth over to the left and we need to be waaaaaaayyyy over to the right. Craig said no problem and I looked over my shoulder to check for cars coming through the tolls. I didn’t think we were going to get right across without stopping the traffic when Craig said, ‘Well that wasn’t too bad’ as we headed off towards the Magic Kingdom parking lot. LOL I said we needed to be ALL the way over in the lanes heading towards the Contemporary!! Doh! We had to go drive down World Drive, do a U-turn and headed back to the toll plaza, this time choosing a booth to the right! No problem. We are learning that ll roads on property are easy to navigate and that U-turns are fab!
Entering the resort was no problem and we were soon parked up and heading to see Mickey. When we arrived at the podium there was no record of our reservation. After a bit of checking and being reassured that we would be seated our booking was found … for July!
Our family just bursting to meet Mickey & Co
We had our photo taken at the Chef Mickey plate and were seated promptly. Our server was lovely and helpful. We had a view over to Magic Kingdom and the castle but we were not seated in the main dining room and it was difficult to see when the characters might appear. We needn’t have worried as Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip and Dale al came round to our table at least once. Minnie was Holy’s favourite and she had bought a special outfit to wear just for today. It was a red dress with white spots and a pair of cropped leggings. Not quite a copy of Miinie, more an ‘homage’ to Minnie!! Minnie was delighted and they appeared to be comparing clothing!! Too cute!
Girls compare taste in clothing
Craig loves Pluto
A dream come true - meeting Mickey!
As for the food, it was delicious with a huge selection. Most bizarre item eaten was PB&J pizza which also seemed to have a marshmallow type topping on it too.
We decided to go to Magic Kingdom using the monorail as we had not been given a parking pass. As we had all loved Space Mountain we headed over to get fastpasses before going to queue for Stitch’s Great Escape. We all really enjoyed Stitch which I hadn’t expected after reading a few negative comments. It just goes to show you that everybody rates attractions differently.
After we came out Stitch we could see and hear a huge thunderstorm. The rain was like I had never seen before!
The sunshine state?
Our fastpasses for Space Mountain would soon be ready so we carefully walked under the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, LOL. We got a bit closer to Space Mountain but not close enough. Feeling abit mad I just ran for it!! The others soon caught up and we arrived at the fastpass entrance soaked and in stitches! A big disappointment then to find out that the ride was down and they were unsure when it would be up and running. We waited a short while and went into the shop for a look around. We decided to go on the Carousel of Progress which again was very good, dang catchy song though! When we exited the ride it was apparent that their was some lasting ‘damage’ from the rain. My feet were stained pink and not just a little bit, LOL!
We headed to Space Mountain again but it was still closed and I completely forgot the tip about heading on to TTA for a sneak peek inside!
We caught the monorail back to the Contemporary and went straight back home to scrub my feet. Craig went out to buy a nail brush and came back with a brush for doing washing up! It didn’t work. In the end I had to use my pumice stone all over my feet and was left with 3 pink toenails and a few stains.
Once we were all showered and dressed we headed out to Festival Bay for a look around. Nothing was purchased and we decided to get Subway for tea as the girls had never been there. Unfortunately it was closing so we headed to the one down I Drive. We were the last customers of the day and the guy looked knackered. We all ordered southwest cheesesteak apart from Rowan who chose a ham roll!! We ate back at the hotel and it was a reasonably early night.
This had been what we called our ‘lost day’ as we never planned it very well and although we enjoyed it we felt we could have done so much more.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Tomorrow – Animal Kingdom and we all brave Everest!
