This Isn’t Turkey Part 3 Seaworld and a very brave girl!

If you have missed any days please see my Trip Report Index

Thursday 22nd June 2006

Me, Sarah, 29 (turn 30 in Florida) – only adult planner
DH, Craig, 32 loves holidays, hates planning
DD, Holly, age 9 loves rides and hoping to try Kraken, loves planning
DD, Rowan, age 7 never been on any big rides, fearless (or so she says)

We were up much later today and were out for 9.30am. We found Seaworld and were soon parked up. I had a slight embarrassing moment at the bag check when I was asked to remove an item – my lipgloss! Craig said it could have been mistaken for a penknife. Eeek!

There was no doubt or discussion as to where to head first……Kraken, oh yeah! Do not pass go, do not collect £200, do not stop to think about it Holly, just get on it!! Seriously though, Holly and I were keen to go on Kraken as this would be Holly’s fastest, highest and longest coaster to date never mind her first time going upside down! We had a very short wait and were soon strapped in. Holly was terrified and because of the restraints it was difficult to see her to reassure her. We set off and were soon on the long haul up the lift hill. OMG, what a height and what a view! I was reassuring Holly all the way up, then we were off!! I loved Kraken. It was everything I thought it would be and more. All the way through the ride I was yelling and whooping trying to make sure Holly was hearing just how much fun I was having and how I was not scared at all. As we pulled into the station I saw her for the first time and she was OK, not laughing but not crying. It turns out she had closed her eyes part way through as she was not used to the sight of going upside down. We did not purchase the ride photo as showing it to friend and family would have resulted in a call from Social Services! She said she was unsure about going on again straight away. However a few minutes later off she popped with her dad and was soon back after her second – yes second – ride on Kraken. She said it was better second time around – that’s my girl! That means she was on twice as many times as me and her dad!! What a brave girl!!

Rowan had waited patiently for us all to have our fun. She was too short for Kraken. I recommended the Shamu Express coaster and we were soon making our way back to the other side of the park. On the way we made a purchase – a spray fan, $15 – wow, it was good. We sprayed everywhere – arms, legs, faces, feet and even a tummy or two! The girls loved the Shamu Express coaster and there was no queue to speak of so they went on a few times. They followed this with a play in the adventure area and while Craig looked on morosely I reminded him that it was their holiday too and we had to fit it what they wanted too.

We were hungry by this time and decided to go for pizza. On the way we saw that Pets Ahoy would be starting soon. We decided to queue and were so glad we did as it was hilarious and very clever. Rowan was especially tickled by the pig! We stayed behind a bit and the girls were able to pet Diego.

Finally we got to have lunch at Voyager’s Wood Fired Pizza.($40). This was a much better lunch than yesterday. The girls received their meals in souvenir Shamu cases – guess who had to carry them? We had some watermelon too which was cool and delicious.

Feeling refreshed it was back into the heat and off to the dolphin nursery. We loved watching the antics here. It was very cute. Seeking more from dolphins we went to see Blue Horizons. This show was amazing and brought me out in goosebumps despite the heat. Craig agreed that it was fantastic. There was so much going on and it was all seamless. Great stuff.

Wanting to get closer to some animals we headed off to the Stingray Lagoon. I bought some ‘fish bits’ (4$ for dish of 5 pieces) and despite Holly hating things like raw meat etc she managed to feed the rays. Just shows you what determination can do. We loved stroking the rays. Holly got soaked by the rays splashing whilst Rowan stayed a bit drier!

Next up was feeding the dolphins. Again we bought some ‘fishy stuff’ ($5) and had great fun here.

Rowan is in the centre wearing the orange hat, Holly is to the right s you look wearing a khaki hat. Craig is behind Rowan wearing sunglasses.

I guided us over to the underwater viewing area and onto Manatee Rescue. I love the look of these animals and it made me so sad watching the film about how endangered they have become. The environmental message really hits home at Seaworld.

We stopped to see the Alligators before heading off to Journey to Atlantis. This was one of the rides I was most looking forward to. We stopped for a few minutes to fire water canons (25c a go) Our aim was perfect and we soaked several boats including one who looked relieved to get down the drop and remain dry – hee hee!! Apologies if that was you!! Couldn’t help thinking I was creating ‘bad karma’ though.

There was quite a wait for the ride and we hopped into the last two rows of a boat. Not long after we set off the ride music was interrupted by a message apologising for the incorrect operation of the ride and that things should be back to normal soon. This played continuously until we got to the top of the ride when it finally broke! There is an employee sat up here and he seemed unconcerned. I however had visions of having to walk off the ride after suffering 3rd degree burns from being stuck outside in the glaring sun. Boy it was hot. Finally we were off and down the drop and stayed bone dry! Who said what goes around comes around?!

That ended our day at Seaworld as we did not want a repeat of last night. Shamu would have to wait for another day. We were back home for 6pm and showered and headed out to Sweet Tomatoes. What a fab place to eat ($35.91) Remember yesterday I said I would try not to overeat? Ooops and it was a big ooops! I ate and drank so much that I got a stitch on the way back to the car. We all ate loads including salads, pizza, bread (I now love cornbread), soups, pastas, cakes, ice cream. There was also a great selection of drinks including a sickly sweet Strawberry lemonade that the girls loved.

We headed off to Walmart for some supplies for the room. We spent $92.24 but this included sunglasses for Holly and Rowan and baseball caps for Craig and Holly. Rowan also got a cute Spongebob watch.

We had a really great day today as we were more relaxed, a bit less tired and more used to the heat – I think I love Florida!!

Tomorrow – Typhoon Lagoon and Rowan freaks out!

Lovely piccies ~ Thanx for sharing:)

...I think I love Florida!!

I know that feeling! :thumbsup2 Well done, Holly, for tackling Kraken! I went on it for the first time last summer and it was THE most extreme ride I've ever done...

Just love that Atlantis ride.

Sounds like the most perfect day

I'm hoping to try Sweet Tomatoes in August.

What a brave little girl you have! Kraken twice in a row! Not been once myself - the queue was too long. ;)

Sara. :)

A lovely day, so pleased that you have settled into loving Florida now! Very brave girls indeed - Kraken scares me so much that I can't even watch my hubby riding it!
