This Isn’t Turkey!?! Part 13 Disney MGM Studios and park fatigue

If you have missed any days please see my Trip Report Index

Me, Sarah, 30 – only adult planner
DH, Craig, 32 loves holidays, hates planning
DD, Holly, age 9 loves rides and hoping to try Kraken, loves planning
DD, Rowan, age 7 never been on any big rides, fearless (or so she says)

Sunday 2nd July 2006

First of all I have to say that todays notes were very short and I didn't write down much of my feelings as for most of the day I was very tired as you will see later. It was even difficult to write the report for today as my memories are clouded by tiredness. Now onto the report.

We had another late start after our late night last night. We thought it might be nice to go out for breakfast and we decided to try Ponderosa. We went to the one down International Drive not far from Race Rock. I think that it was around $20 for us to eat but none of us really enjoyed it. Just felt it had a very ‘worn’ look to the place and the service was not very good. Food was OK but not worth going to have again. Wish we had gone to Sweet Tomatoes to try their Sunday Bruch – must do that next time. We had a quick look in the gift shop and parted with $9.99 for a Spongebob baseball cap for Rowan.

We arrived at MGM late morning and it was a hot day today. We headed straight to Tower of Terror for fastpasses before joining the standby queue for Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster. Rowan was nervous as this would be her first upside down coaster but she was determined to do it and away we went!! It was a great ride, the launch was amazing and Rowan said she thoroughly enjoyed it once she opened her eyes. She said she loved the glow in the dark signs.

Next up was Tower of Terror. Rowan baulked at the last minute and as I was not bothered about going on (scared?me?never! LOL) I said I would wait with her. Then Holly piped up that if I was not gong then neither was she. That left Craig to ride alone but he (mistakenly) thought I really wanted to ride this so he decided to save an argument and not ride either! Hope that makes sense. We all duly rode down the chicken elevator along with a girl and her brother who would not get in the lift until we confirmed that it was indeed the chicken way out and that the CM was not tricking them to ride. LOL.

Holly and Rowan spotted Chicken Little and Abby Mallard posing for photos so the joined the queue with their dad whilst I went to secure fastpasses for the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. Sadly they were not issuing any fastpasses for the shows and I returned to see Lilo and Stitch posing for photos instead.

After some cute pics we hopped onto The Great Movie Ride which was not at all what we expected but it was so much fun. Our guide was very good which obviously is very important. I hated the bit with the snakes though and kept my eyes firmly closed much to my DD’s amusement.

We wandered through the streets to see the Extreme Stunt Show but it looked like it was going to be cancelled as the sky had turned black. We went to see MuppetVision 3D which was a great laugh. We loved seeing the ‘real’ muppets too. It was very nostalgic for me and Craig.

When we came out it was pouring with rain so we donned our ponchos and headed to Star Tours. Craig and Holly went on this while Rowan and I had a look around the gift shop. I must admit to feeling very tired now and a bit fed up. The ride got a big thumbs up though so maybe next time for me.

The Voyage of the Little Mermaid was next and I was looking forward to this and had perked up by the time we were sat down. It was good but strange. Good because of the dancing and singing and strange because of the clips from the film which are obviously used to shorten the show to a more manageable time.

As we exited the sun was back out now and we joined the masses of people waiting for the Extreme Stunt Show. I was back to feeling awful and could have just settled down on the path and fallen asleep. I was trying to be cheery for everyone else but it was hard. The stunt show was good but I really didn’t want to be there. We had decided on the late start so we would hang around to see Fantasmic at 9.30pm but after the stunt show I just wanted to get out of the park. Everyone agreed to call it a day and I got the feeling that I was not the only one feeling lousy.

Instead of going back to the hotel though we went to Sweet Tomatoes arriving about 7pm. The air con, food and drinks perked me up and I felt much better. It was then that I realised that we had suffered from theme park fatigue. I was glad that it happened at the end of our holiday. We had been very careful to avoid this but it was all too much in the end.

We went back to our room and my SIL and family decided to come to Walmart with us. They had not been there yet. I can’t remember what they bought but we came away with $100 of stuff! Shopping over there is great fun and we all got something.
On the way back we went to Dunkin’ Donuts drive thru (again!) for our usual box of 12.

Bed for all around 11pm. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Tomorrow – Magic Kingdom - July 4th on the 3rd!!

Memo to self - fit in Sunday brunch at Sweet Tomatoes! They really should have you on commission! Shame you missed Fantasmic but not surprised you were tired.

Sara. :)

The odd meltdown is definitely understandable! Last year I was so tired that I slept through Lights, Motors, Action!
