This is why I love Disney.....

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story.

Being a mom of a daughter with Down syndrome--I too appreciate how our Disneyland/Disney World trips have afforded us the special times/trips/and help to really enjoy some wonderful special memories. :)

It's heartwarming to see Baker's smiles with Mickey Mouse! Memories for a lifetime! :):goodvibes

WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! Absolutely WONDERFUL!!!!! I am so glad that some very generous and caring people made this trip possible for Baker. I am saying this also from the point of view as a mom to a daughter with severe autism. I wish I could make more people understand how magical Disney trips are for our family. I know I can come here and find people that DO understand. Thank you so much for posting those photos. I am going to be smiling (and crying!) for the rest of the day. :)

What a great story and photos! I didn't read the thread about the family losing their home in the tornado. I can't even imagine how losing the comfort, safety , and familiarity of one's home would affect a child with autism. I'm so glad they could do this trip!--Kathy

I have worked with many many kids with severe autism - and I saw their faces in Baker's face - wow, you can't beat good lunch time sob ! I would willingly wait in line all day if a child like Baker was in front of me - take all the time you need, Mickey, you're a hero !!

This is why we love Disney. They always rise to the occasion. These pictures tell the whole picture. If I had been there I would have been crying along wither you. What precious memories you made!

Simply amazing !! My family is wondering why I am crying. They told me I never cry.....so I showed them. Now we are all crying !!! :thumbsup2

I am sooooo happy for Baker and his family !

What a beautiful story. It made me cry also. Disney is such a beautiful magicial place and this is exactly why . :goodvibes

Way past my bedtime here and I had a pretty rough day, getting a call at work from my son's special needs teacher because he had 7 seizures this afternoon. She called me from her cellphone on a greenway trail because they were walking back from an outing to the movies (because our school board cut funding for busses for his program) and he was out cold on the trail. My son also has severe autism and is 14 but developmentally functioning more at a 6 to 7 year old level.

DS is fine now and as everyone sleeps I needed to wind down here on the DIS. I read this story with tears streaming down my cheeks. I could see my son in Baker's expressions... From the first picture to the last and every one in between.

Thank you for posting those pictures and that touching story. I really needed that tonight.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story. This is why I love Disney, they will stop at nothing to make such special memorable moments. I am so glad you guys were able to experience such a wonderful experience. I am crying like a baby ;A;

Thanks for the update on Baker's trip, maroo. Lovely pictures. O.K., now I have to go wash off the mascara that's run down my face. :goodvibes

This has brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful moment. I can definitely agree that this is one of the many reasons walt disney world is our travel destination. No place else understands kids with disabilities the way disney does.

I have not been on the DIS in days and was surprised to see all of these sweet comments!

I am so thankful that you guys enjoyed the pictures! It was a wonderful moment and I am so glad that now many more people are able to enjoy it with me!

:hug: I am so sorry! Walking back to school - I am so, so sorry for all of that!

I hope he gets better and that you don't have any more days like that one!

I am so glad this encouraged you!!

So very special !

Maroo, you are a very special person indeed, always giving of yourself to help spread that magic! You are amazing!

So glad Mickey has that 6th sense and went the extra mile for Baker - so glad Disney encourages that for those "magical moments"

and yes, I have tears in my eyes - more from the pictures of mom and dad in the background, its like Mickey took their breath away!

Thank you for posting this Maroo. Disney sure has a way of spreading the pixie dust (and tears:) ). I am so glad Baker and his family were able to take their trip to Disney World. Sounds like they have been through alot.

When I have a bad day or Ty goes through a rough time I always think back to the Fairies and how they treated him. The look on his face and the smiles they created when they gave him that kiss on his head. No one touches his head (but me of course;)) But yet the fairies worked their magic.

Mickey certainly worked his magic for Baker. And so did you:love:

Thanks for posting this. My heart was so happy for Baker and like others, I am crying at my desk at work :sad1:

We had an encounter with my DS last year and Chip & Dale. He is mid-level functioning ASD. He's verbal and can make his wishes known, but we had NO idea that C&D were his faves. When we casually went up to get our photo taken in the Animation Building, Shawn suddenly got SO excited, started holding Dale's cheeks and kissing his nose. Dale immediately caught on and started hugging Shawn back. Then he went to Chip and brought him over and the three of them spent at least 10 minutes just interacting. I was crying, taking pictures and getting that guilty feeling too for the people behind us. My DH was hugging me and we just watched, and they let him stay and until Shawn let go. Then they took pictures, shook his hand, hugged and waved goodbye. It was so awesome. We had to leave the building, I was TOO emotional.

Disney is the BEST for our kids.

That is a wonderful story, brought me to tears. I love to watch all children at Disney interacting with the characters. It is such a joyful thing to watch children just be children.
