I agree with pretty much everyone - this is too convenient of a set up for it to be this simple. Plus, what others have said about Mandy Moore saying it won't be until next season that we find out exactly how Jack dies tells me this isn't as straight forward as they're showing right now.

But the last show was recorded and shot, before they knew the show would be picked up for 2 more years.

If you have On Demand, go watch the 5 minute clips that are called the "After Show". It is really interesting to hear the actors giving their view points how they feel about the shows.

I'm not sure women were really still thought of that way in the mid 90's. We weren't expected to be housewives at that time.

Maybe not housewives but even now there's still this perception of what a woman's "job" is. If you go back a few pages in this thread you can see it here. PP wanting to know why Beth didn't arrange for childcare when she had to go out of town and Randall's job taking precedence over family. Heck, if I go out of town for 3-4 days people lose their minds that I "trust" my DH to watch the kids and hold down the fort. My oldest was born in 1996 and people were in awe my DH fed and changed her. We've come a long way but in some instances the world stands still. If you can see it in 2017 then you could see it in the 90's.

I do not think Jack dies the next episode since don't you all remember the scene at the gravesite of his death. The
"kids" were older, not the ages they are now.

Also, I think Mandy Moore acting is much less superior that the actors that surround her.

See I think the kids are older teens. Which is what they seem to be in the scenes we saw this week I think Mandy Moore is great as a younger Rebecca but as an older Rebecca I agree

Kind of off topic, but did anyone else catch the Tangled reference in this week's episode? Randall says to Rebecca, "I love you mom," and she says, "I love you more," and Randall says, "I love you most." OMG! I was dying, but then, Tangled is my favorite movie ever!

Totally agree - he's grubby and gross; only slightly less so than Norman Reedus (Daryl on TWD). I guess that's a "type" some people actually like.

That was exactly my point. Changing attitudes about responsibilities in the home and child-rearing have definitely lagged behind society's acceptance of women working outside the home.

He is. While I love Fixer Upper Chip always looks grubby and gross even when he isn't working on a house.

I didn't get a Tangled reference from that. DH and his sisters have been saying that since they were kids, and he's 46.

I have changed my mind and I don't think Jack dies yet. The kids are a little too young, as compared to the funeral scene.

What could be more painful that William dying? I know..Jack..but I don't think that's it yet.

I stopped reading about halfway because I don't want to know too much. Not done on TV? Violence? I don't even want to think that but Jack's dad has a history. In my experience it's something men do or don't do, not something they do once. Jack strikes me as a "would never do" type of guy. Not sure why my head went there but for some reason it did.

Hopefully today's moms are teaching their sons that housework is everyone's problem, and teaching their daughters that they aren't house elves.

OMG I absolutely hate his hair. what an ugly hair piece. it has to be fake hair the way it sticks off the back of his neck at the shoulder. so cheesy. It makes him ugly to me. greaseball. yuck.

Having seen that actor over the years, starting with Gilmore Girls about 15 years ago, pretty sure that's all his real hair. He just has a lot of thick, bushy hair.
