This is Us- Season six

Mark Kelly certainly brought name recognition though.
And of the other 12 can you name them without looking? It does happen in real life and represents more than 10% of the total US Senators in office right now. My point is of all the things on this show that can be termed unbelievable, this is not one.

I went back and looked up a few things - I forgot that in the Big 3 episode focused on Randall that he tells his mom that a US Senator from PA was retiring and they wanted to talk to him about running for the seat. So it appears he would be a US Senator at the wedding.

There's also a lot of rumors floating around about Randall running for President - and that the security detail mentioned at the wedding is because he was a candidate for President (which would explain the security detail).

The reason I think he either doesn’t run or loss the race for presidency is because in the future is because he would have some form of detail at the cabin in the flashforward. Last night imho planted that seed as well when he looked at the medicine bottles.

I don't even think US Senators necessarily get security detail - I believe a few do (those in leadership roles), but not all 100 of them.
While not all US Senators get a security detail, I would assume it's almost non-existent for State Senators.

But I thought they said he was just sworn in as senator from New York. Maybe I misheard.

I feel that Randall finally realized in last night's episode that his mom is not getting better. I think that after talking to Miguel and seeing his mom calling Kevin "Jack", it hit home that this is real and his mom doesn't have long and probably not Miguel either. Sure, he probably acknowledged her illness before but it finally became real.

I also believe that Kevin doesn't have to look like Jack for Rebecca to call him by his father's name. It sounds like he has been around her a lot lately and in her mind he fills the role of the love of her life. Props to Kevin for taking on that role and Miguel for loving her so much that he steps back and lets Kevin take that role. If the tables had been turned and if Rebecca had been the one who died and Jack the one with memory loss, would have been any different? Kate doesn't look like Rebecca either. I remember my mom in the last months of her life. She had dementia and was in a nursing home because she needed more skilled care than I could give her. One day while visiting her she told me that she might be getting married to a real nice guy. I asked her if she was talking about Jack (that was actually my dad's name) and she said "Oh no!". I never could get her to tell me who and I don't really think she knew who, it was just a lost part of her memory.

Who is Gregory and who is Sterling T. Brown? I have trouble remembering the character names at times so calling the actor by their real name throws me for a loop. 😄

I thought it was heart rending for Rebecca to sing that song at the wedding, she'll never know it would probably be the last time and the three kids knew that it would probably be.

I guess I'm the only one that hated Randall's speech. lol I actually hate how he acted this whole episode. You NEVER tell someone with Alzheimers "remember". NEVER!!! You'd think he'd know this after 7 years of his mom having it! Normally he doesn't bother me too much but he really did this episode.

I'm also finding the Alzheimers storyline a bit unbelievable at this point. The disease has hardly progressed in Rebecca. Her being able to remember what happened the night before is a bit unbelievable.

Overall I didn't like this episode. Felt like we didn't need another wedding episode. We got it last week that she married the music teacher guy. I want to know what happened after the wedding and before Rebecca's death.

The thing about Alzheimer’s is that memories come and go. My grandma had it, and was eventually put in a home because it was too much for my grandpa. Some days, she had no idea who we were, and some days she was perfect and recalled memories from years ago. It was very believable.
In any case 5 years before the wedding (when they were all at the cabin) she announced that the medication wasn't working and the dementia was progressing. It's highly unlikely that it is still so mild. Also, Kevin looks nothing like Jack did so not sure how she's mistaking him for Jack. It would be far more realistic if she was constantly wondering where Jack was or looking for Jack. If Kevin actually looked like Jack she could mistake him but he doesn't.

I guess we're just supposed to pretend that Kevin is the spitting image of Jack.

Looking like someone has nothing to do with it. Kevin and Jack do have similarities in their appearances. They’re both lean and have narrow faces. That could be all she needs to confuse the two.

DVR'd and watched this morning.

...I absolutely loved Milos acting when he entered Rebecca’s room at Kates wedding. He was making the actions and facial expressions that Kevin would be making based on what Rebecca was saying. When he enters the room, she says something like Jack, there you are and Milo hesitated just for a beat and he looked a little confused because that’s what Kevin would be doing. Does that make sense? lol...
Yes, he did a great job!

...You know the song that Rebecca was playing and singing at the wedding? The one that Kate said she’d play for them all the time when they were growing up? Sorry for the shouting but THATS THE SONG THATS BEEN PLAYED AT THE END CREDITS SINCE EPISODE ONE!!! They knew all along that song would be so important and just played it as some random music for the end credits. As soon as I heard it I recognized it...
I didn't even notice that. WOW!!

RE: Randall's speech - So, so, SOOOOO true!! When he was talking about a year being a fifth of Jack's life...

I actually have a spreadsheet on my computer that calculates different amounts of time as "percent of life" for people at various ages, because my family has had just that discussion before (at several different points, but lately about how long the pandemic lockdown felt.)

A few thoughts: I love how they had Milo play Kevin when Rebecca was calling Kevin Jack. So creative! I really hope they don't have Kevin end up with the wedding singer, a brand new character with only five episodes left, seems a bit forced. Also, I don't think they allowed us enough time to see the relationship between Phillip and Kate develop, also seems pigeon-holed in. Still loved the episode though and especially liked the Beth/Madison scenes and even some of Phillip's funny comments.
Maybe that's all by design and part of the "life is speeding up" theme.

There is also a huge theory starting to go around that Kevin is NOT married but is wearing Jack’s wedding ring to help Rebecca.
I am crying inside.

1) While Deja not being there makes sense because it’s 2026 she is definitely in college where were Tess and Annie?
I did wonder where the girls were.

2) Beth and Madison had me howling at times.
Yes! - perfect comic relief in an otherwise heavy episode.

6) Anyone else think Miguel haD Parkinson’s at first and not a side effect to the medicine?
I did!

Me too! Thinking Kevin decides he doesn’t need to have that “that” relationship in his life. Maybe he stands on his own?
That makes sense. I'm looking forward to finding out next week, but I think he may pass up all three chances.

They mentioned his "detail". I'm guessing you don't get that as a state Senator.
I thought he just joked that his daughters were his detail?

I'm a nurse. Been working with Dementia patients for over 20 years. I think we just have to suspend our disbelief about the Jack/Kevin thing. We are just supposed to pretend that they look and act alike. As a nurse, it just drives me crazy when shows get medical things wrong.

Anyway, I'll check out that article.

I don't think even US Senators have security detail unless there is a threat of some kind. Mitch McConnell is from my city and he is seen eating in restaurants and stuff around town and he doesn't have security detail around him.
