This is Us- Season six

I totally missed Rebecca's voice!

I have been trying to figure out the movie they went to, though. Was it "An American Tail" - the one with the little mouse named Fievel?

I thought the smoker choice was odd, too. Something like a pool or a trampoline might have been a better choice for family bonding.

It also seems weird that next week's episode is devoted to Jack's mom. Really? Now, you're going to introduce this angle? We have 15 or so episodes to wrap up loose ends, and you're devoting one to someone new to the viewers?

Loved Beth. That would totally be me if it was our daughter, while DH would be Randall.

As to the driver's license thing--as others have said, learner's permits and driving vary hugely from state to state. I had 2 kids go through driver's ed. in New Hampshire, where all you need for a "learner's permit" is to put a copy of your birth certificate in the glove compartment to show that you're at least 15 1/2. And one of my DD's friends had some special dispensation (family hardship), so she was driving without a license at 15 1/2. And no insurance is required in NH, either. Live Free or Die, right? Meanwhile, we're now in North Carolina. My youngest recently got his permit, which required drivers ed., two forms of ID, proof of insurance, proof of residency, a sign-off from the school for good grades, and a written test. (what--no DNA sample and promise of a first-born child?)

I had the same thought. I’m not looking forward to next week’s episode at all 👎

I do remember her a bit when they were dealing with Jack's issues with his father.

Maybe they will tie it into other characters' relationships with their mothers, and with everyone saying goodbye to Rebecca in the flash forward.

I thought bringing up Jack's mother was also weird. Like people have said, the show is ending, why bring in something new. I also don't know how I feel that Kevin called Cassidy. I think she will end up being the person he marries. Guess I'll wait and see how their relationship goes. I also loved Beth, she was just too funny with her quips as Randall was raging.

I'm still holding out hope for Kevin and Sophie. Not a fan of his relationship with Cassidy.

I love the show, but the writing just kills me every episode. There are so many other ways that aren't dumb to tell the same story.

Examples in the last episode:
1. Randall let Deja go to Boston to stay with her boyfriend and 'she's not doing it again!'. A boyfriend who already has a kid, and you think that your precious Deja is not having sex? And shocked when she is? Really? What parents let their kid (WHO IS 14!!!!) go 5 hours away to spend a weekend with their boyfriend?

2. Madison is 'worried' that she won't ever find a man. She has this frickin' movie star who wants to be with her and is around all the time, yet she is flirting with some nerd. You can dump Kevin on your wedding day, but that doesn't mean you can't still try?

3. Kate doesn't care at all how tough working far away is on Toby. Kate has it easy compared to Toby and she craps on him all the time. Toby is a saint to put up with it. And there has got to be a job closer to home for Toby. Why can't Toby ask for help from Kevin? He would rather break up his marriage and make it tough on Kate than get some much needed help from Kevin? When Kevin really needs it as he went through a divorce?

The writing just sucks to me even though I love the show.
I’m not sure saying the writing is bad is fair when you’re messing up the facts.

1. they didn’t LET Deja go see Malik. She lied and snuck off. Something that was clearly stated over the last two episodes. Do you have kids? Do you really think forbidding them actually ever works? Also, Deja is 16 or older. Randall said in this episode she is a junior in high school.

2. Looks aren’t everything. I’m rooting for them to work out in the end, but suggesting somebody should be with somebody they aren’t in love with because he’s a movie star is one of the most shallow things I’ve heard. She’s allowed to be worried as a single mom of 2.

3. I don’t particularly like Kate, but stop with the Kate has it easier bs. Yes, it’s hard for Toby to be away, but being the caregiver always on is exhausting. Don’t downplay that. Have you watched before this episode at all? They covered quite extensively why Toby took this job. And why he couldn’t accept financial help from Kevin. It would have caused different problems if he had.

I think the writing is beautiful. I think it’s what makes the show.

With the exception of the smoker scene. I’m hoping that ties back together in a future episode so it doesn’t really end as awkward as it was in this episode.

I love Randall & Beth. Beth has been my favorite character from the start!

I know this is just a TV show but the Kate/Toby thing with his work really irks me. My husband traveled 4 days a week for work for the first half of our kid's life and I didn't fault him for it. It put food in the fridge and a roof over our heads and I got to stay home with my son full time. Granted, I didn't have a special needs kid but Kate's reaction is so extreme and in my opinion selfish. No man or person will ever live up to her dad for her. It's a no-win situation.

OK, finally caught up. Still love/hating the show. More love than hate. Most of the plot devices are genius. But some are bombs. The smoker thing is one of those, regardless of how it goes.

The mother thing seems really off for this late in the series, but maybe they're setting up an episode on mothers to bookend the one on fathers.

You do that and get back to us. popcorn::
:confused3OK, so it was on last night while I was making supper (and waiting for the Raps game to tape). I must have missed something pivotal about the smoker and Kate and Toby. Did their boy get hurt in some way by the smoker? All I caught was something to do with them not getting naps on time. Fill me in if you want - I’m not going back to re-watch it.

We have been shown that it did happen, but haven't seen it happen - if that makes sense.

There's a flash forward in which grown-up Jack and his wife are using/talking about the smoker, and he mentions part of the memory of it being negative - we see a brief flash through his limited vision and a scar he now has. We are expecting to see the incident from audience point-of-view in an upcoming episode, and it seems to be the breaking point for Kate and Toby.

In a flash forward, Jack is grilling on the Big Green Egg when his girlfriend (wife?) asks him why he still uses it when it was instrumental in the downward spiral of his parents' marriage (I'm paraphrasing).
