Can we skip over Thanksgiving and go straight to Christmas? I'm not excited for Thanksgiving at all this year. I don't want to cook. I don't want to be around Chris' Aunt and Grandmother. I don't want to have to worry about any of that. We have enough going on as it is. I'm so Bah Humbug about Thanksgiving this year. Last year I was so excited for it because I was going to be full term on Thanksgiving. Maybe that's my problem. Maybe I'm sad because I'm not pregnant and I don't have the excitement of giving birth to look forward to. I'm trying to keep myself busy with planning Alex's BDay party and Christmas but apparently it's not working.

Carla, Thanksgiving is so much work and it is thankless for the person doing the cooking. Every year I make a huge meal, with new dishes and such. I get up at 4am to make sure that we eat by noon. Every Thanksgiving I am ready to go to bed before it is dark out because I have worked by rear end off and I never really enjoy the meal.

I have over the years learned ways to make it easier to cook the meal. One is to cut my veggies up on Monday and putting them is ziplocs. When it is time to prepare my stuffing it makes it soooo much easier. This year we have decided that it is going to be a simpler meal than in the past. I am making the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, cranberries, and a veggie. That will cut my work time way down. For this I am grateful.

It IS so very thankless!! And I kwym about not being able to enjoy the meal in the end. You've looked at that food all day, maybe all week and smelled it for so long that by the time you finally get to eat it, it's not very appetizing any longer. I'm glad to hear you are doing an easier version this year. I don't do all of the cooking myself but I do the turkey, stuffing, desert and sometimes a vegetable casserole so I make the majority of the food being eaten. No one offers to help with the turkey. I even cooked it last year while 37 weeks pregnant! Chris helped me pull the turkey out of the oven every time to baste but that was the extent of the help I got. I really don't have to cook if I don't want to but if I don't cook the turkey then no one will. :sad2:

In 2007 I got out of the hospital on September 11 after being in there for five months and one week. I was expected to present a Thanksgiving meal to the extended family. I was still on a walker. We decided at that point that I was ordering one of those meals from the grocery store. Granted everything is cooked but you have to reheat it all so you are still in the kitchen for hours with it. Not a fun experience.

The basting part I can make easier for you. Cook your turkey in a Reynolds wrap turkey bag. You don't have to do a thing with it until it is time to come out. My turkeys are always moist and it is so much easier to cook. Check this out.

aww..sorry you are feeling down about TG

Alex first Bday will be awesome and Christmas will be even better, as he can try and help open gifts. So fun to watch him play with paper and boxes

WOW... That is absolutely horrible. I would have had dinner with my own immediate family and told the rest of them to fend for themselves

What ticked me off the most was the "oh let me help" and then them not even coming near the kitchen. Gee thanks for all the help.

Yeah, don't offer to help if you are not going really do that :headache:

Or my all time favorite, sit and watch me from across the room and pretending not to hear when I ask for help. And in second place standing in the kitchen talking to me and watching me struggle to do things.

Wow, I was just reading about the Thanksgiving topic. Michele, I can remember Steph being on here and asking for prayer for you because you were so ill in the hospital. Then people had the nerve to expect you to cook!!!! I just don't get people sometimes :sad2:

Carla, I hear ya on Thanksgiving. Not one of my favorite times either. Not sure why :confused3 Holidays just stress me out and I end up getting sick most years :headache:

Kelly...time is ticking on that trip girl :goodvibes So excited for you guys!

Love your new Avi Nicole :goodvibes

Thank you very much! :goodvibes I love Betsy's new avi!!!

I haven't run since last Saturday. :sad2: I should have gone Wednesday but I went to the boys soccer game instead... figured I could go Thursday. Then I got sick Thursday! Blah.... still feeling worn down from having run a fever. Man, a fever kicks your butt when you get old.

Anyway, I have been surprised at the NEED I've developed to run since I started this 5 months ago. I've heard people speak of this phenomena but have never experienced it before!
