This is such crap! I'M SO MAD!!!

It might not do you any good but there is an Apple store in Southpark Mall in Charlotte.

We are also having a problem with Best Buy. My DH's video Ipod has died twice, I bought it Christmas 2005 with the 3 year warranty. When he went in to pick it up after that last repair, which ended up being a replacement, Best Buy told him that since the unit was replaced, and it's been over 1 year (apples's warranty? still don't quite understand that), we have to buy another extended warranty, the original doesn't carry over to the replacement unit. We both talked to a manager about it and all he'd say is "I'm sorry". I'm going to write to the corporate offices, BBB and anybody else I can think of. Can you believe a 3 year warranty is only good for 1 year and one month? Never buying anything from Best Buy again.

BTW, we finally think we figured out why DH's kept dying. He used it while jogging. Apparently it has a hard drive and that's not good to bounce around but of course neither company tells ya that. Got a Creative Zen mp3 from Circuit City and talked with a sales guy there and he confirmed the same thing. If you're going to jog or otherwise shake it around much, get an mp3 with a flash drive instead. DH still uses the new ipod in the car and at home but jogs with the other one.

Good Luck!

This is actually correct. DS's ipod was under 1 yr, so we did not have to utilize his replacement plan, Ipod covered it, and the replacement plan carried to the new Ipod. Past 1 year and the Best Buy policy kicks in.

On the other hand, my digital camera was past 1 year old and died and Canon did not still cover it. So I cashed in the replacement plan, got a new updated camera for $0, and bought a new replacement plan for it for $49.:) They explained it to me this way and it should be in the fine print.

Nope, I read the fine print, the entire contract and couldn't find that in there anywhere. We may have different contracts but there is nothing in mine about the warranty being voided if the unit needs to be replaced. It wasn't our choice to replace it, they didn't ask us, the old unit could not be repaired so they gave DH a new one.

I'm confused about "cashed in the replacement plan and got a new camera for $0" - they didn't offer us any refund on the original warranty, told us we had 30 days to buy a new extended warranty and we haven't so now we're on our own I guess. I could see giving us a partial refund on the original warranty and then having us buy a new one that would go from that date for another 3 years, but they were telling us the original extended warranty just went away with the new unit, no credit. I'm assuming we have now the 1 year warranty from Apple again, we have a new receipt when we got the replacement unit and we're just going with that. We just paid $60 for one month more than Apple would have covered anyway. Never buying an extended warranty, or probably much else from Best Buy.

I think they stopped making the minis about a month after I bought mine. They told us the last time we sent it in that if they sent it back to Apple and they confirmed that it was really broken they would give us store credit for the price of the Ipod (minus the warranty). Then we go back today and get this crap.

I would drive to the Southpark Mall in Charlotte if it would do any good, but since my 1 year Apple warranty is up, it wouldn't make a difference.

I am surprised by this. We bought a new TV from BB in June. In November we started having problems. Since it was a large TV BB sent a tech out to the house. He had to come out 4 times. the last time being this past Saturday. He called BB home office - talked to someone got a confirmatino # told us to take the set back to the store. He helped load it in my van. Went to BB they looked up how much we spent orginally said we could spend that much on a new TV if we went over we had to make up the differnece. Picked out a new TV, they loaded it in my van and we were home. Whole process took less than 2 hours once we got the confirmatino code from BB. It sounds like the problem is your local BB. I would call the warranty # onteh web site and talk to them.

Cashed was not the right word, sorry! I "used" the replacement plan to get a new item. They actually gave me $300 and I was able to get a much nicer camera since prices came down on them. I bought a new replacement plan for the new camera. DS's Ipod was still covered by Apple so he did not use his replacement plan...yet!

Wow, that's really awful! I bought a nano in Jan. 2006 and had to take it in in July, maybe, after it died. They gave me a new one on the spot and never said anything about my 3-year warranty not carrying over. (FTR, the replacement one had a defective flash drive and never did work, so I took it back in to get another new one and BB not only gave me a replacement immediately, they were also very apologetic about my inconvenience. That's the only BB in the St. Louis area I'll go to now, though--I have had problems with rude SAs at the one that's a lot closer to me, unfortunately.)

Your Ipod was less than a year old, so Apple still covered it for BB. After a year, the replacement warranty is what would be used.:)

ashjohnson80 - I'm sorry for your situation, it does stink. I wish there was something you could do. Maybe you'll be shopping elsewhere too?

BibbidiBobbidiBOO - I understand what you're saying. It makes more sense to me in your situation since they gave you a credit, you upgraded to a different model and then bought a new warranty. We just wanted the rest of the 1 year 11 mos left on ours.

OK! - glad it worked for you. I've kinda wondered if we just went to another BB if we'd get another answer. I'm still going to write those letters though, and call as pigletforever suggested.

Again OP, I'm sorry this happened to you. Didn't mean to hijack your thread.
