And they say the economy is getting better.

Maybe I am seeing it through the eyes of a military spouse but I don't find this story too sad. The wife has cancer and the DH was willing to do what it takes to get his wife and family taken care of. I applaud himThe only sad part was the wife had cancer. But now she has options open to BEAT THE CANCER.
Maybe more people should do what this husband was willing to do........
Oh, I do applaud him for doing what he has to do, but what I find so sad is that there is a very good chance that she is not going to live to see him again. The odds of surviving ovarian cancer once it has matastisized are very very small. Given that she is reacting badly to the chemo her odds have gotten even worse. A build up of chemotherapy toxins can mean the end of treatments and thus the end of any chance of remission. In a better economy he might have been able to find a job near to home that meant he could be with her all the time.
Does the Army not provide accommodation so they can be together? How long is a deployment to Iraq? Surely not 4 years?
That may pay medical expenses, but he still wouldn't have a job to support the family. This is a very sad story. But, isn't there medicaid for someone who is making low wages and is very ill? I would think she would qualify for free health care. I know people around here who are less ill than her and get it.
Kudos to him for doing what he had to do. Too many people sit immobilized and feel sorry for themselves, solving nothing.
Yes, all the job losses are very sad and I, personally, don't see any end in sight for the situation we are in (for multiple reasons).
It takes courage to pick yourself up and do what you can to provide for your family. Kudos to him for stepping up!
