After watching the horrors of 9/11 replayed this week I am racked with guilt asking this, but I think you'll understand.

If (and when) the war starts with Iraq, would this put you off visiting any part of the USA?

I know a lot of us have trips booked, mine's not till next summer so it may be all over by then, but how are you all feeling about it.

Will you feel at risk in the US if a war is going on in the Gulf??

I hope this is taken in the way it's intended. I know in the scheme of things, this is nothing!!

Thanks

Craig

We went Xmas 2001, booked Jan 01, we took 9/11 into consideration but would never have cancelled on the basis of fear.

Look up some figures for accidents in the home or road accident figures, the risks are far higher on a daily basis than the chance of being involved in a terrorist attack.

Each to their own, but I personally don't see travelling to the US to be a great risk, you have more chance of being shot by a mugger than blown out of the sky.

At times of tension like this I feel we should support the economy instead of holeing ourselves up at home.

We're going 3rd November. The only thing to stop us will be the Government advising it is not safe to travel.

Craig,

I don't think it's shallow to ask this question. At exactly this time last year someone (I think it was me?) started the very same thread. There was some agonizing at the time.My DH wasn't sure he wanted to go,but my stance was as it is now.

The conflict if/when it happens wouldn't stop me going unless as Floridalol says we were told not to.

Every family must make their own decision, but I'm a fatalist and believe my time might be up at any time ,crossing the road, even doing housework! So this makes me more determined to go to the States than ever!!

I would only not go if we were warned not to by the government/authorities and, presumably, in that case the flight would be cancelled.

Otherwise, wild-horses wouldn't be able to stop me!

First time I ever visited Florida was back in 1982 and there was a problem with both Cuba and Grenada then - didn't think anything of it until I got home and saw all the news reports.

Last year we flew to Hong Kong and then on to the Philippines exactly two weeks to the day of 9-11. Of course we were slightly apprehensive, I don't think anyone could honestly say they wouldn't be. In the Philippines they have a HUGE problem with terrorists down in the southern islands, but we were travelling with my brother and his wife who is Filipino to their holiday home on a mid-island and we saw no problems at all. However, due to the drugs problems they have security was exceptionally tight - and I had no problem with that at all (as opposed to someone from Australia who had complained to the Cathay Pacific crew about the delay standing waiting for our hand-luggage to be searched:rolleyes: ).

My DH and I have discussed our soon to be October trip in length regards Iraq, terrorism etc. What can we do other than be as vigilant as possible and pray we have another great trip. This trip has been long planned, long awaited and loads of money! I have a foot injury which is causing more stress and worry than anything else at the moment regards this trip:(
