Ok, you will probably think this is strange question, but it happened to a friend of mine and made me wonder if it has happened to anyone else.
When you have returned home from your magical vacation to WDW, did you return home to find your home had been robbed or otherwise intruded upon?. I have a friend who traveled to WDW a few years ago. She stayed and enjoyed a marvelous 7 day vacation. When she returned home she discovered her home had been broken into. Talk about a bad end to a wonderful vacation.

This is more of a Community Board topic and thus this thread is being moved there.

Thanks,

Knox

We once came home from WDW & found DH's truck had been broken into.

There are at least two DIS people who have had this happen. One is PHorsenuff, not only was her house vandalized by teenagers using it as a party house, it turned out that the kid who they were paying to take care of their pet (IIR, might ahve those details a bit off) was the one organizing it. The partiers were kids they knew and were friends with the parents of. jsut a sad situation all around. I think it happened to her twice with the ame kids.

Someone else had their house broken into, and someone else had their car broken into while it was at the airport or park and fly.

Happened to Phorsennuf twice :sad2:

I'm sure this happens all the time. I remember when I was about 10, I went camping with a friend. Their house was broken into while we were gone.

This happened to our neighbor. We were collecting their mail and generally just watching their house. We had been checking the mail everyday until we had a 24 hour bug sweep through the house. We didn't check the mail Friday or Saturday and when we went over on Sunday my daughter and I walked in to find all the doors, closets, cabinets, and drawers open. We stepped into the kitchen and noticed the back door wide open and I quickly whispered to my daughter to get home now. I felt as though we had just walked into the robbery. We always had to twist and wiggle the front door lock and it took a minute or two to get it open. I can't shake the feeling that the kids left when they heard the door. It was terrible.

My neighbor is an avid war relic collector and many guns and medals were taken along with a laptop and projector. We now know who did it and most items have been returned.

No, it hasn't happened to us. We always get our neighbour who is right across the street to check in on our house. Also, he's home all the time. Not only that be we are fortunate to live around 5 RCMP officers! It's pretty safe here.

I returned home from a 10 day southern carribean cruise to find that my ex-husband (who was supposed to be keeping the children with him at his apartment) decided to move into my home for the time I was gone. He allowed DD (16) to have a party and he supplied the beer. Luckily, one of our neighbors saw a bunch underage kids drinking in the back yard and called the police (party started about 7 pm and the police arrived by 9 pm). At that point there were about 100 kids at my house (with more arriving, according to the neighbors). Seven cruisers responded. My ex was arrested for supplying alcohol to minors, resisting arrest (he decided to fight with the police - not a good idea), and after our visit to the police station when we returned home - criminal trespass. His trial is in January (and I hope he goes to jail!). There was no damage and nothing missing, although I think a lot of this is because (1) it was a nice night and everyone was mostly outside and (2) the police were called early enough that it really hadn't had time to get out of control. Needless to say DD is on restriction until further notice (it happened the first week in October). Luckily she wasn't arrested too.

It has never happened to me and I hope it never does. My parents check the house daily, and my dear next door neighbor keeps her eyes peeled, walks around the yard, will park her car in my driveway for periods during the day (so it looks like I am having visitors), will walk around the yard...generally makes it look like there is "activity" around my house.

Plus, my neighbor and I sort of resemble each other (middle age, salt & pepper hair, wear glasses) so as she walks around my yard, I am sure there are people who think she's me.

My brother once had his house broken into while we were in town visiting. We weren't staying with my brother. He lives in Ft Myers, and we were staying on Sanibel. They had come to spend the day with us at the beach. When they got home, they found that somebody had broken into their house and stolen most of my SIL's nice jewelry and other valuables. It was very strange, actually. He lived on a golf course, and earlier in the week, somebody had broken his bathroom window with a golf ball. He had removed the window to repair it, and that was how the thieves entered the house. So, he thinks that whoever broke the window was the one who stole his property. He recovered some of his valuables at pawn shops in the area, but most things were totally gone.

It's funny now - but wasn't so funny when it happened.. Years ago my parents were going to Nova Scotia for 2 weeks and asked if we would go and stay at their house to keep an eye on things.. Of course we said yes - only to return to our home and find that it had been burlarized while we were watching over theirs.. LOL

It's a creepy feeling though.. Our place at the lake was burglarized once too and there was evidence that the people involved actually stayed there for a good week or more.. Ugh! I didn't even want to touch anything until I had cleaned the entire place from top to bottom wearing rubber gloves.. When something like that happens, you really do feel violated.. :sad2:

never had a break in, but we have had hte person who cat sits call us about open doors.. she left my shadow inside, and he broke out. (19 lb part persian kitty, he can open the front door from inside th house.)

Yes has happened to us, but with out getting into details we where kind of expecting it. Some major family issues with BIL we knew what he would go after if he broke in so every precaution was taken care of before we left. Computers, and person information was all removed. We even changed our locks, but some how he got in. He didn't get anything but it still felt strange coming into our house.

Since that time we now have personal security that checks on the house, kids, and us from time to time.

He has some major issues, and there is a investigation going on with him. With that investigation we didn't report our break in because he would only spend little time in jail. Instead he sits free, keeps digging a bigger hole, and one day soon he will either leave the country or be in jail for a really long time.
