This is Photopass?

I've never gotten anything but beautiful Photopass pictures in many, many trips. I don't think what you've shown above happens too often, though I'm not denying that it can happen.

We booked BOG for dinner in August. I wanted to try it but I really wanted to meet the Beast. NOT ONE PICTURE turned out. They were all pitch black. I was very disappointed. Their response was that there was an issue with the camera and they would let the photographer know. I will have to remember to give them my phone/camera when we do these things. Since I've never had an issue, and their pictures turn out better than my iphone pictures, I just always let them take it.

A camera set to auto will do OK in situations like this. But I'm quite certain Photopass has manual settings dialed in which include an expectation of the flash firing.
Now I really want to see the EXIF data for some of these awful shots. I presume that it'll show the flash didn't go off, but I also wonder if the exposure settings are nothing short of a trainwreck to compound the problem.

It's hard to say. My understanding is that CMs are given their cameras with settings already established, and are not allowed to change them. I imagine mistakes happen and accidents happen, but I think they all start out with pre-established settings for their location.

We’re home now. Had I seen those day of, I would’ve asked to go back in with no waiting.

We do have some great photos from Photopass. I think our mistake was trusting in them too much and not giving them my wife’s camera or any of our phones. My wife even mentioned that the SW M&G felt very rushed.

The ones that mattered to my youngest the most came out awesome so it’s not that big of a deal.

I have had a few 'stinkers' from PP photogs too.. If you can use photoshop software of any kind at home... you can 'adjust' the brightness a bit.. at least to see who is in the picture.

With an iPhone 7 (and 8) the photos on those phones can be as good as (if not better, in some conditions) than many DSLR cameras.

Have you tried to do any auto-correcting on the picture? I mean, it'll probably never look great, but there is software that might be able to brighten it up enough to at least see Kylo Ren and your party in the photo.

That's certainly disappointing. I have to say on all our trips, the Photopass pics have been excellent. I'm sorry your photos came out so poorly.

Whenever I have indoor Photopass Pictures taken, I ask them specifically to check and make sure the flash worked. When those batteries wear down at an end of shift, they don't recharge fast enough for the number of pics those park photographers are taking. I can't recall ever having had pictures that bad ... but the Photopass photographers clearly vary WIDELY in both ability and interest.

I used to lug my DSLR around the parks, but I rarely do anymore - it's a lot of work. Best investment I ever made, though, was buying a really good new Point and Shoot (a Canon G7x MkII). It takes fabulous pictures and videos, is infinitely more flexible than a phone camera, and doesn't drain a cell battery. If we do a character stop, regardless of whether we get a photo pass, we're taking pictures with that as well. The results are spectacular, even on auto setting.

I think many people are disappointed with the Beast photos from Be Our Guest dinners. The room is too dark (or perhaps too dark for the settings on the cameras).

I wouldn't be so sure of that, those photos look exactly like what I'd expect for a camera set to use flash as primary light and not just fill. It's pretty clear the flash didn't go off as planned, but I'd venture the exposure settings are otherwise correct. Unfortunately with your eyes in the viewfinder it's not always obvious when the flash misfires, I'm surprised the handler CMs aren't trained to mention it.

While the latest gen phones are pretty amazing, and can perform very well in excellent lighting, they're no rival for a proper camera and lens when the lighting isn't ideal. Plus, that little LED flash is a joke! The sensor size difference alone is huge in terms of light capturing capability.

Did you ask for a partial credit for the cost of Memory Maker? I think you should point out that if you pay for a service, you should get what you pay for.
