probably not to most of you but to Pennsylvanians, it's pretty cool:banana: I was in the local Wegman's last night and bought a six pack of beer:banana: I didn't need it or want it, I bought it just because I could:rotfl: Finally, beer sales in the grocery store:woohoo: I'm still trying to get over the state stores being open on Sundays:eek::rotfl:

No WAY!!!
:banana::banana::banana:

If you do not live in PA (or if you don't drink, of course) you cannot understand how WAY cool this is. In fact, on Sunday I was picking up some grocery items and I thought how nice it would be to wind down the nice weekend with a glass or 2 of wine with dinner. Of course, I have no wine in the house because acquiring a bottle takes an act of God in this state (ok, I exaggerate, but let's just say it's far from convenient)...so I was out of luck. Drank some stale beer from last 4th of July's picnic.

So fill me in, when did this start? Where? Oh I'm going to become such an alcoholic :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:!

You live in the dark ages.:lmao:

you have no idea:sad2:

OK, calm down Woman:rotfl: When I walked in the door and saw the rows and rows of cases of beer, I about peed myself:rotfl: The one I went to was in Downingtown. I believe they just started sales last weekend:confused3 They also has some of that Mike's Hard Liquor stuff but I didn't see any wine coolers and no wine:headache: Baby steps I guess:rotfl:

Our local Wegman's now sells beer, and the local Giant has a wine shop.

Pennsylvania is finally being dragged (kicking and screaming) into the twenty-first century!!!!

GET OUT:eek: you have wine in your Giant:banana: Maybe there's still hope for this state:rotfl:

I'll have to go shopping tonight and report back on the Berks county situation. This can be the Official PA Booze Hunt thread.

Is is state wide thing or just local townships? I haven't been reading the papers. The store I shop didn't have any on Sat. I'll have to check out Giant today.

I don't drink, but I do have to just shake my head over some state's liquor laws. We went from AZ, where they have drive thru liquor stores and hard liquor is sold in the grocery store, to CO where most alcohol is sold in private stores. You can buy beer at a grocery store, but it is a lower strength.

Lots of people want the laws changed but the private liquor stores say that it would put them out of business. All I care, is that it is preventing Trader Joes from coming to CO, as a large portion of their sales are from alcohol. I want my Orange chicken!

Grocery stores here don't sell beer/wine. Now I know my Giant doesn't sell wine - wish it did. We need to make separate trips to the liquor store.

I will also check out some of the east coast pa stores and report back.

Here in NJ they still don't sell it at the market. We can buy it on Sunday- but from a liquor store.
Oh it would be convenient to be able to just grab it during a normal shopping trip.

I am very happy for all of you. I can't imagine not being able to pick up wine with dinner or Beer for the BBQ. It's hard enough to have to wait until noon on Sundays. :rolleyes1

I did the same thing on Friday. I could so I did. :cool1:

I bought my first six-pack of beer at a grocery store when I was 18. (Yes, I did the chick thing and make-up and heels and flirted with the cashier, duh!)

I'm 40 now. Welcome to the New Ages!

I can't imagine not being able to buy alcohol when I want to buy it. The only time we can't buy booze is between 2 am and 6 am, so frankly, I don't even notice.

Our CVS sells hard liquor, too. Wow. Stand in amazement!

I'm in Western PA. No Wegman's here. :sad1:

I heard Giant Eagle was looking at applying for a license as well, so hopefully it won't be much longer for us (especially seeing as Giant Eagle sells it outside the state).

However, I think the PA legislature will step in and revise the law to ban it.

NO way?????? I had no idea that it was changing. I grew up in Vegas, so it was strange to come to PA and find the stores DRY, lol.

I know of one store in the Norristown area that has a really nice state store attached that you can walk to from inside the store. Now that is nice.

But - you still have to go to a beer distributor to get beer. Are we actually moving up in the world.

Course I don't drink much except for a very occasional glass of wine.

Is Wegman's the only place in PA. I don't think there are any in/near Philly:confused3

Kies99 - I haven't heard the name GiantEagle since I graduated from IUP:thumbsup2

Another poster mentioned wine in Giant. We have a Giant...no Wegmans either. I'll bet Sams Club will be in on this in no time...maybe even Walmart?
