This is just one reason I don't do Coasters!

If I am going to get stuck on a roller coaster, I want it to be Barn Stormer. ;)

Agree with you on that one. Barn Stormer is a fairly tame ride to get stuck on and fairly easy to get off.

That's Rip, Ride, Rockit at Universal, and it's only 167 feet, not 200. Those seats are actually pretty comfortable, so it wouldn't have been a huge deal to be stuck up there, unless it was extremely hot and they wouldn't bring water or shade. It's not like they were stuck upside down in a loop for 3 hours like the guys on the Demon in 1998 were. *THAT* would have bothered me lol.

Okay I have to ask how does a car even get stuck upside down in a loop? To me physics should dictate that the car would complete the loop before finishing coming to a stop. And if they had some sort of safety mechanism there. Why the hell in the middle of a loop? That's a huge safety and health hazard. Shows you I guess the year it was, 1998.

ETA: Okay never mind. Apparently the ride shutting down does happen and leaving riders upside down does happen every once and a while. Even though my brain says that makes no sense logically. There goes that comfort with loop de loops. Probably will still ride coasters with them though.

This is nothing. The first time I rode EE, we got stuck on the straight up piece before it goes backwards. Completely stopped at the very top of that 90 degree angle. That was terrifying.

We also got stuck there. This was during the soft opening, so not completely unexpected…but I still could have done without it. I thought for sure we were going to have to walk back down. Luckily we didn't.

More like a 45 degree angle.

Spoken like someone who wasn't stuck there for two hours.

EE=Expedition Everest?

Probably still unpleasant, but definitely not 90 degrees.

Not unusual at all.. Though the 2 hours is a bit long. Many coasters stop on their lift hill, it could be because someone does something stupid (takes out a camera, at a park where that is not allowed, and on big coasters cameras are a safety risk) or it could be simply the control system built into the coaster is stopping it for what it perceieves as a possible safety risk. Control systems of coasters are WELL KNOWN for thinking that there is something wrong when nothing really is, but then again that is one of the reasons coasters are so safe.

There is one coaster that HAS gotten stuck upside down, and only one coaster ever in the modern age that was Demon at Six Flags Great America. It did it once, in the 80's.

Top Thrill frequently rolls back, where the launch is not powerful enough to make it over the top, I think the purple train is most likely to have roll backs, and there are various "theories" out there for those that would LIKE to make it roll back (my husband). It has less frequently stopped, at the top, I think its done this 2-3 times? Since 2001 thats not much considering how many other issues TTD had had. (we used to jokingly refer to it as the world's largest lawn ornament).

As someone mentioned COASTERS are VERY SAFE. I worked at a theme park here in KC, MO for 8 seasons, many of them operating coasters (and yes there is VERY little difference between the coasters at local parks and the one's at WDW), and I can't even begin to count the # of times I told people the most dangerous ride of the day is the ride in their car to the park.

I saw one where someone maybe had a hoodie tied around their neck or was maybe holding it but anyway one of the (empty) sleeves fell out of the car and it wedged between the track and wheels and it stopped upside down.

But yes in an E stop the car should have enough inertia to get through the loop and stop at the next set of block brakes.

Not that it matters, it would still be scary and very uncomfortable, but from what I remember, The Demon's loop isn't very high or very big...

Memories... that was my first coaster ever...

We were walking around Storybook Circus last Sunday, and we came upon the Barnstormer. I like to watch roller coasters, although I have no desire to go on them, being a great big chicken. :rolleyes1 We stopped to watch it and it wasn't moving.

Waited. Still not moving. Waited some more. Gave up and started to walk away, then thought...surely it's gonna move...went back and no it still wasn't moving! These folks looked awfully calm for people stuck on a ride aimed in that direction! :scared1: Can only hope none of them were big chickens like me!

Shortly after I took these two pics, the ride finally went, and boy what a short ride it was compared to the long time they were hanging there!

Ha! Ha! Those people look happy to me. If they wanted to---they could slide right down the pole--or walk down the track and jump down. The rip ride rocket picture gives me the chills....that's scary!
