As we get closer to December, OKW and SSR will fill up also and you will have very little wiggle room if half of your waitlist comes thru and the other half does not.

To play this game, you pretty much need 2 sets of points. 1 to hold your existing reservation and the other set to book your waitlist if it comes thru.

I agree with the others, you could be playing "ressie roulette" if you confirm day by day and cancel what you already have.

I never thought of this. As it is right now, we have enough points that we will be banking one full year (160pts) every year. So tecnically, I will have 320 to play with every year, until we dip into to this banked points. Is it a faus pau, or some DVC sin, to keep my ressie intact at SSR and at the 7 month mark start calling day by day to waitlist a whole seperate ressie for the BCV? If all days come thru then we cancel the SSR, if they don't then we cancel what we got from the waitlist at BCV.
As long as I cancel before that 30 day mark, the points just go right back into the pot right?

One thing you must be carefull with is the use of developer/incentive or 07 UY points. If these are involved with your SSR res, they may or may not be able to "swap points" with the new res at BCV. I have read two different views on this. Some say that once you book your res with the points you have, they are locked into the res and cannot be switched out with the older points that get "freed up" once you cancel the original res.

Others have posted they have had CMs do it for them and they have had no trouble.

I am also considering a similar xmas booking. I have enough points to book two ressies, but I wouldn't want to have my 07 points to remain in the pot and have to use my 08 points for the xmas trip. I know that I won't be back to WDW before the 07 points expire (June 09) and so if I couldn't switch them into the new ressie, I could risk them expiring. I'm really nervous of making a mistake with my points just to get a better chance at a different resort.

I plan on the 'all or nothing" approach. Luckily, we are only looking for one room. I would not want to worry about having one day in the middle of my week that we have to switch resorts. You are basically homeless for the day, not to mention the pain in the to switch for one day.

I can't imagine it's much fun wondering for months if your vacation is going to be a mess Now, if you're a gambler, maybe it would be great to roll the dice

I guess since I have the original ressie with my 07 points, then I could always try to get the waitlist at BCV with my 08 points. Then I could try to call and get a CM who can do the swap of 08 to 07 points, but like you said its a gamble. If I can't do that, then I still have the option of either keeping the ressie at SSR OR tell DH that we have to take another trip before June 09 or we are going to loose our 07 banked points! We are planning on going to DL the first week of June 09, so I guess we could move that up to May or sooner to use the 07 points.
This is driving me crazy that it is soooo out of my control!

Well, its settled. I am going to leave the SSR ressie intact and start making a new ressie in May with the waitlist for the BCV. We will just have to bump our DL trip from June to May 09 if we have to.
