I bought DBF a WDW vaca for xmas, I rented points and am going in May... We are no longer a couple, now I bought the tix through ticketmania, and the points through DVD and the airline tix through continental...my question is can I transfer his name to someone elses for all of this stuff?

  • I assume the room is rented in your name -no problem
  • Admission tickets (besides AP's) are not assigned to any names - no problem
  • Just call Continental and see if you can transfer his flight or cancel it for a credit for future flight - may have a small fee - no big problem

Wonderful WDW vacation with a friend - Priceless

Sorry to hear about the break-up. They can be so very heartbreaking...even if it was for the best...it can still REALLY hurt. And then having to rearrange plans only adds insult to injury.

Anyway, if you're still up for the trip (might do you some good) and can find a willing person (or group of folks) then keep the ticket mania tickets and DVC reservation (assuming it's in your name). As far as airline tickets go, Continental will charge $100 to cancel the ticket but I'm pretty sure they only give a voucher in the canceled traveler's name for the remaining balance sans the $100 fee. But you never know until you ask them.

I wish you well and keep your head up.

Sorry for your loss, but it has happened to lots of us!!!! :grouphug:

I was engaged to be married, (dated 5 years), and 2 months before the wedding the gentleman backed out..... After the engagement party and announcements.

I was mortified at the time.... At any rate, now that's a distant memory, and really it's much better to find out now before marriage, before kids, before a mortgage, etc....

Something and someone special is in your future. You just have to be patient a bit more.

And by the way, just call each company and explain the situation, and most will be helpful. THey may even waive some or all of the penalties....

Marshall Fields took back his and hers monogram towels, for the pending name change, which I thought was really classy of them. (I had registered with them, and they made it sooo easy.... I exchanged stuff for a kicking wine collection, that 11 years later, and 10 years of marriage later to the right one, that we're still drinking and giving cheers to my ex).

Best wishes, Goldi
It will get better slowly..... :wizard:

Your problem will be the airline ticket. Most airlines will not allow you to change the name, they will issue a credit for future travel in the original persons name, minus a service fee. You may want to post on the transportation board regarding Continental's policies.

If you can't transfer the ticket, mail it to him in a Christmas card (after you've already left of course). Find someone else to go with you. All they'll need is an airline ticket. A small price to pay for a WDW vacation.

I like the idea of the christmas card--had a similar experience with USAir--they just said too bad. I do know Southwest will let you use the amount for a future trip --it won't hurt to call and speak to a supervisor.

Good Luck.

As others have written, the airline ticket will be the big problem. If you'll be going to WDW with someone else, the rest should not be a problem.

Call Continental right away. If the ticket is a nonrefundable ticket, don't be surprised if the agent, the supervisor, and the supervisor's supervisor all take the same position: that the ticket can only be used by the person whose name is on booking, and that the booking cannot be transferred to another name — but that the person whose name is on the booking can reuse the ticket value for another flight after paying a change fee (typically $100, but sometimes less for flights to Florida).

I hope you'll be able to recover some value from the airline ticket, but be prepared to consider it a loss.

But the one thing you might have going for you is that YOU paid for the ticket. I suspect you will be able to cancel the ticket and have some amount that can be used to book a new trip, but I would check with Continental as things have gotten especially tough after 9/11.

I bought my niece a ticket for USAir and she didn't go. They said the credit could only be used by her. I believe Southwest allows you to use the credit for anyone, I think each airline has their own policies.

My experience with cancelled airline tickets is that the credit card used to make the purchase gets the credit. Good luck!

US AIR said too bad???? I've cancelled flights tons of times with them and they have never said too bad. They take a $75 cancellation fee and the rest is held as a flight credit for future bookings. That flight credit must be used one year from the DATE OF PURCHASE not the travel date. Why spread the negative misinformation about US Airways? :confused3 Saying to bad isn't the policy of any airline. To the OP just cancel the flight, you don't need to give them the break up details. They could care less what the reason is. Just cancel and realize it will cost $75. Good luck with the dating future.

That's true for refundable tickets.

It's not true for nonrefundable tickets, which most leisure travelers use. Most airlines won't issue a credit to a credit card unless there's a significant change to the flight schedule, such as a cancellation or replacement of a nonstop with a connection or a change of many hours — and the passenger specifically asks for a refund because of those circumstances.

For nonrefundable tickets, most airlines will issue a voucher that can be use for a future flight. There's a fee/penalty of $100 per ticket (or $50 on a few routes due to competition). Every voucher of this kind that I've ever had was only good for the passenger who was originally ticketed.

Before anyone gets the idea that refundable tickets are a better deal than nonrefundable tickets, keep in mind the the same roundtrip can be $1200 for a refundable ticket or $200 for a nonrefundable ticket.

The only airline I know of where you can transfer the credit to another passenger is SW. I have a feeling OP is just out the original ticket. But hopefully whoever she gets to go with here wlll buy their own ticket seeing as how she has taken care of the lodging!!!

Any chance the XDBF would be a gentleman and help out with the ticket charges (if you must pay at all)? Sort of like the old, do you return an engagement ring question.

Whats "DBF" - Dear best friend... Dear burger and fries...Dear bad fiancee.... Dear...oh never mind I won't even go there???????

USAir would only allow the voucher to be for the name on the ticket. I spoke to several people and explained what were very sad circumstances and ended up losing the money. I am not bashing USAir-just stating what happened to me. If I were changing my own ticket it would have only involved the changing fee which I think is now $100.
