For everyone who lives north of the Mason Dixon...think back to the cold harsh month of February. Now, picture yourself, the owner of a free rountrip fare, thanks to Southwest, and an Annual Pass, thanks to lots of rationalizations (it's a way to get a really good discount on a room....maybe we'll go back for Thanksgiving next year....I don't drink (much) or smoke or play golf....) You sit down one night, 3 months after a good, but somewhat chilly, trip to the world with your husband, and you start to read Disbug's Solo Mission trip report.

Somehow, reading that report (which was great, by the way) made me think..... there are people out there who actually go by themselves!!! They don't have to coordinate anybody else. They don't have to ask anyone if they are hungry or tired or hot or do they want to go on this ride or that. They don't have to arrange a meeting spot in case we get split up. They don't have to make sure everyone has a jacket in case it gets chilly during Illuminations. They don't have to check the menu to see if the "picky one" can eat here. They don't have to argue over why (for the hundredth time) sun block is important even if it is only eight o'clock in the morning. They do not (and this one is my favorite) lay in a dark room wide awake because everyone else is still asleep.

Now, don't get me wrong. I love my family. I would love for all of us to go together right now. But that's just not possible, and for close to 20 years, I don't think I've spent more than one day by myself, unless you count conferences for work which I absolutely don't.

So, fast forward to Mother's day. After a delightful day of driving my children around the state for soccer..we settled down (at 8 at night) for dinner. My daughter jokes and says, "We couldn't get you what you really want." I asked "What's that?" and she says... "A trip to Disney". I say, "Actually, I have that free ticket on Southwest and my annual pass, I could shoot down for a long weekend if I had the time." She replies..."You always make time for everyone else, why not yourself for a change?" Ahhh, out of the mouths of babes...well, she's eighteen, but anyway...

It took me a few days to take the plunge. I picked up the phone, and called my favorite number. I decided if they had a value room at an AP rate for next Friday and Saturday, that I would take it as a sign and go. Sure enough, All Star Music was available. My flight choices on Southwest were superb (what a hoot to book a flight for 5 bucks!). I got a rental car for $60, and (the coup de gras) booked thru Priceline for Thursday night and got Sheraton Safari (what I was hoping for) for $37. (Please, if you hate Sheraton Safari, don't tell me, cuz I'm really happy right now.)

I have to admit I'm a little nervous, but boy am I looking forward to 3 whole days in my favorite place, away from being the chief coordinator at work and at home.

Besides, it will be the first time I go on Buzz and don't come in second!!!

Oh, and by the way...thanks so much Disbug~!

You will love going by yourself. It really is great doing things when you want.
I went on my first solo trip in September, and I had the best time! There are 7 of us going the end of June, but I am seriously thinking of going by myself next spring.
Have a wonderful trip!!

Have a great time and be sure to write an update! I would love to do this...maybe someday I'll be able to convince myself to do so!

Boy! I had no idea what an influence my trip report might be... so did you do another trip report when you came home? I'm going to go look! lol! Thanks for making my day... *wink! :thumbsup2
