So,
I don't know if this is all over the news for you guys, but it is over here in the VA/DC area.

1 girl out of 4 will get an STD between the ages of 14/19

Doesn't that freak you out?
I definitely know that freaked ME out, because wasn't it something like 1 in 40?... but now its 1 in 4.

Is that all over the news in your area?

Yep, it's everywhere on the news here, too.
Doesn't really scare me.
You just have to be careful.

OMG.
I know!
I heard that too.
I don't know if it's true...
But ick.
I sure hope not.
That's just... BAD!
1 out of 4?
Goshhhhhhhh...

Just dont have uhm.. YEAH.
Its that simple.

It's a little thought in the back of my mind because I'm not worried about it. I mean I don't plan on doing anything anytime soon to be getting an STD.....:confused3 But yeah, just be careful!

Like Brit said, it doesn't personally worry me since I don't plan on having sex anytime soon.

But it's still a sad thought as to what this world is turning into. :sad2:

I think that should be rephrased.

1 in 4 stupid girls who don't protect themselves will get an STD.

3 in 4 smart girls who either choose to abstain or learn how to protect themselves if there are going to be sexually active will get off scott free.

I'm pretty sure you girls have nothing to worry about. :thumbsup2

Hah,
When I saw the part that said "That should be rephrashed"
I thought you were going to yell at me or something *phew*.
Yes,
I am not, Nor will be one of those girls.
EVER.
I think its so stupid, is that REALLY how many girls are having sex?
Thats pathetic.
You dont need it to live,
I can think of cooler ways to spend my time.

I'm very, very saddened by this statistic- is this really what's going on here? Are these kids not being taught well by their parents, or are they just buying all that crap sold to them on TV and in movies? Very upsetting. :sad1:

Yeah, right on!

This is why schools shouldn't teach abstinence only. I don't know if that's what they teach in your area, but that's what they teach in mine.

I haven't watched the news for actual news in a while so I don't know. It's a scary thought but not for me. I don't plan on doing anything like that to obtain an STD anytime in my near future.

That is really sad.
It isn't that hard to protect yourself...

i think that is pathetic. cant people learn to watch their backs and maybe find some new pass-times?

I saw that in a magazine. I couldn't believe it, either.

This is my STRONG opinion and ONLY an opinion.
I don't want to offend anyone on here.
BUT

My opinion is.
Just don't have sex at all until you are happily married and want kids.

I found that to be pretty simple,
Don't you?

I may be wrong, but I read about this a couple days ago and I thought the study was on like 800-1,000 girls.
That's hardly enough to be accurate. They'd need a much bigger sample from the country to be able to convince me that 25% of teen girls get STDs. Maybe a study or survey from like 5,000 or 10,000, but not under 1,000. Could be biased toward one area that happened to have lots of STD-infected girls. (as opposed to the rest of the country)

^ I agree with you and i mean come on it can't be that hard to buy some rubber....if you catch my drift....^^

Not really.

A lot of you are saying to just protect yourself...STDs are different than, say, getting pregnant. It's a bit more difficult to protect yourself from an STD. The only real sure way to make sure you don't get an STD is to abstain. I'm not here to preach about abstinence, haha, just stating a fact. ;) "rubber" lol, will not protect against most STDs and neither will most birth control methods as those things protect mainly against getting pregnant and even still, those aren't 100% protective. Just be careful. If you're going to be active with someone, get checked out first. The both of you. Make sure you're both clean. Or, don't do anything.

yea, i agree, the best protection is abstinance.. and "rubber" only protects against pregnancy and diseases transferred through fluids (HIV).. and even then, its no 100% garunteed.... it doesnt protect against pure contact diseases, such as herpes, at all... and you dont even need to have sex to get an std... if you share something like a towel with a person with specific stds, you have a chance of catching it too... i think the reason the infection rate is so high is because people have a mindset of "as long as i use rubber or a pill, then im safe", which is completely wrong
