This coupon user made me mad - Update 1st post.

Do it today! I used to work bookkeeping at a grocery store and it is easier to do the same day. Not that this is any motivation, but sometimes they will give you a gift card or something to show their appreciation for saving them a ton of money. They can pull her membership for stealing at their store.

A lot of stores are doing away with self check, cuz they are losing so much money on them. I hate the self checks anyway, but there are always a few apples who spoil it for the bunch!

Wow, unbelieveable. It would have never occured to me to try something like this; then again, I have no good reason to try cheat the system. And most coupons expire pretty quickly anyway-- I doubt I would use them again before the expiration date.

Just think of all the good things that could be accomplished if dishonest people put all that creativity and energy into producing something productive.

OP-- you should definitely call and report her! She'll never know who did it! And hopefully, management will be grateful to you. People like her will eventually cause the store to stop accepting coupons or do away with self check-out or raise prices or any combination of the three. I've noticed that many store clerks are not very coupon friendly anymore and I've been told that too many people are scammers.

I like the self checkouts and using coupons. It makes me mad that someone could be spoiling them for all of us.

OP, That crap gives us "legal couponers" a bad name and will ruin it for all of us.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
I don't know how it is in the States but in Canada some stores are sooooo picky about coupons and can treat you like a criminal while trying to use them.
And people like that are exactly why.
That makes me so mad:mad:

That's considered fraud or shoplifting....and those stores have cameras watching the checkouts. You can bet her photo has been handed out to all of the clerks by now and they're watching for her.

Maybe she only hit's every BJ's store once!

Since you have to scan your card in these lanes and the register should know what coupons are missing, she might get caught. Just something to think about to help ease your mind. But yes, that is very aggravating

That's really sad. I hope the employee that was supposed to be monitoring the self check out area didn't lose their job over that little scam the customer was running. I would have reported it.

I agree, this would tick me off too - :headache: I would also call the store and explain what you saw.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people cheat their way through life...I would venture a guess this isn't the first time she's pulled a stunt like that!!

Instead of using all that energy to cheat and spend time at home cutting out coupon-shaped pieces of paper, she could have used those brain cells for something productive.

Report her!

OMG I would have reported her I think that is just plain NOT right and dishonest... I could NOT have a clear head and soul if I did that

That's exactly why the BJs I go to no longer allows you to scan your own coupons. After you finish ringing up your order you have to push the help button and the worker will come over and scan the coupons for you. They have signs stating this on all the self check-outs. People are so low.

I don't think that employee will get in any trouble (at least I hope not!). I sometimes work the self-checkout lanes at a grocery store which has 6 self-check lanes. If a customer was doing that at one register, and I was helping a customer at another, there's no way I would've noticed, especially if she did it quickly, didn't have an excessive amount of coupons, etc.

At my store, some departments (usually meat, but sometimes prepared foods) put these peel away stickers on food that is about to go bad (sell by date is that day) for $1 or $2 off. The coupons don't work at self-checkout unless the cashier processes them. I've seen lots of people peel them off legitimate products and try to use them for others. They get caught though, because if it's for meat (says so on the front) and they didn't buy any meat, it won't go through. I love when I tell them it won't go through because they obviously didn't get a product for which the coupon was meant, they always act so innocent.

Wow, OP, I'm really surprised the customer service rep didn't care. Do they also not care when people walk out without paying? :upsidedow

I still think you did the right thing by calling and I hope corporate follows up on this. Karma will get her!

I once saw a woman taking large eggs out of a carton and placing extra large eggs in the same carton. I couldn't believe it. I told the dairy guy and he didn't seem to care much about it. This was at a Jewel food strore in the western suburbs of Chicago.

I think emailing corporate was the right idea. The customer service people at my BJ's are absoluetely worthless-- so if I have a problem/issue I ask immediately for a manager--not a supervisor but manager. Not a department manager, assistant manager or the manager on duty, but the actual on paper store manager.

CSR's don't care because it is not their job-- unless they are the ones reconciling the drawer/receipts. Supervisors don't care because well, they were supposed to make sure someone staffed that lane but they didn't.
Managers care because it the sales figures and receipts are tied to them. Assistants managers may have a "not my job" mentality as well.

By emailing corporate, it shows the lack of concern or training that these customer service reps will have. It will come back to them.

If you felt like it, you could try to reach the actual manager and tell them that you informed the corporate office about fradulant transactions in your store and how the stafff didn't want to investigate. (That will get the manager's attention).

On not caring.

I majored in Accounting, and my audit professor had a wonderful way of getting her way with customer service. She'd start with customer service. She'd move up to the manager. If it was something like this - fraud - and the manager didn't take it seriously, she'd say "your auditor is Ernst and Young, isn't it? I'll give your auditors a call, they will be more interested in fraud than you are."

Can't you just photo copy coupons and use them? I know you can print them on your computer. What is to stop you from photocopying that and using several?
