Today, I was leaving the airport and a bus pulled up. Out jumped about 10 soliders, on their way to Iraq. I almost broke down into tears, they were all around 18. I don't know why it was so emocional for me, but I didn't really understand how many people have to go until I was sitting at the airport watching a bus load head off to war.

Ten people is nothing compared to how many are out there now, or are waiting to be sent. You probably already knew that, you just couldn't picture it until that moment.

I remember when I went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg at the Irish Step show that had a tribute to the soldiers. Like a video of them in an airport coming back from war and people clapping for them. Then you saw people leaving, it hit me hard too don't worry. It just doesn't make you think until you actually see it I guess, and mine was just a video.

I know what you mean it doesnt really hit you until you experience it yourself.. My cousin was sent to iraq, he was 21 at the time, he then came home 4 months later and was severely depressed they wanted to send him back and sadly he couldnt take it and comitted suicide...this hit everyone hard it really shows us what their going through. :guilty:

My thoughts are with everyone and there families :guilty:

For some of us it's a every day thing. My husband is Army and will be leaving at Christmas time for 15 months. We were supposed to go to DW in Feb. We have 16 friends there right now and one that died in Dec. I wish I could cover my eyes and not see the sadness anymore. :sad2: :sad1:

My dad was in Desert Storm.

he said when he landed in the desert, it really hit him with the "oh my god, what have I done?"

Yeah my cousin is back in Iraq for the 4th time.

My godmother came back a year ago and promptly retired because she had her 20 years. My dad and mom both served during Vietnam, but got out before Desert Storm and my great-grandfather on my dad's side served during WWII and recieved a DFC for his service. None of them talk about their time in the military during wartime.

Once at the airport when we were waiting to take off, a soldier came home, and his whole family was standing there with signs waiting for him to come off the plane. They started screaming and yelling when he finally came out. I started to cry.

It is emotional when you see some soldiers heading off. I would be affected the same way as you.

Yeah it's crazy. When I was coming home from Ireland I was in Shannon Airport and there where somewhere between 20-40 or maybe more...soilders going to Iraq. Shannon is a huge place for the US miltary to transport soilders and equitment through. So my flight got delayed and all these soilders where there having some drinks and stuff, and there where military airplanes everywhere getting ready to take them to Iraq. I was there complaining about how my flight was delayed a few hours...then seeing what they where going through put it all in perspective for me...it was crazy.
