I posted last night re: ADR's for people NOT on DDP and am trying to get this cleared up. DH told me this AM he read on another thread about people ON the DDP having to pay OOP for their meal b/c a family in their party was NOT on the DDP. Can this be right? We're going to be three families; 2 on the DDP, one that's not.

When I called to make ADR's the CM asked if we would be on the DP. I told her two familes would, one would not and she never said anything about making us pay OOP. I would think she would have told me if there was an issue with that. Hopefully someone else will be able to give you a more definate answer, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Back in May DH and I were on the dining plan, and we had a sit down meal with a friend who was not on the dining plan. Just tell your server in advance, and they'll split the bill.

One thing you will learn the longer you are on the DIS:

Believe only half of what you read ... and be skeptical even about that half!

They are not going to penalize you for dining with a non DDP family. Just ask for seperate bills.

The other family will probably have an automatic 18% gratuity added to their check, even if you have less than 8 guests. Check so they don't accidently double tip.

There is a question if you can use some of your credits to treat the other family. If that's what you want to do ASK your server. Debates on these types of questions are no longer allowed on DIS we don't know Disney's official policy.

We had 17 people with us on our trip to Disney last week. Out of those people there was a family of 4 on the Dining Plan and a family of 3 on the Dining Plan. Everytime we sat down to eat, there were people with us that were NOT on the dining plan. It was never, ever a problem.

We had a friend from Orlando join us for dinner one night at Ohanas. We just paid OOP for him and they automatically added 18% gratuity to the bill. You will be fine!

When we were there in May my brother and his wife were not on the DP and we were still able to use the DP while they payed OOP.

Everyone in your dining group does not have to be on the plan for you to use yours. We did this several times recently. Simply let the server know who is on the plan and who is not on the plan and they will bring seperate checks.

The other party will automatically be charged 18% tip on their bill.

You can not use your plan to purchase food for them, so maybe that was the confusion. But they can certainly pay OOP while you use your plan at the same meal.

Yep, we split checks all the time. it's not an issue at all. Though the auto 18% is new to me (for the non-DP guests, I knew it went on the DP guests). :confused3
