Steve Wozniak (Apple co-founder) commented on the problem the iPhone 4 is having with signal degradation when the phone is held in a certain way.

He was able to duplicate the problem and said that:

"If you can afford it, carry a second Verizon phone for backup. Another option is to carry a Verizon mifi and rely on Skype on your iPhone."

You can read the entire story at:

Apple has a press conference scheduled for 10 am PST today to address the issue.

... or just carry a very long phone cord with you and plug it into the wall! LOL

I will admit, their is definitely an issue with antenna attenuation because of the external nature of the antenna (bad idea) but once I bought my bumper, I haven't had any signal issues.

Of course their are other issues that I think will be fixed by a software update, like the proximity sensor not being as effective or an issue with the blue tooth headset paring. But hey, no one else is really stepping out into the unknown and pushing innovation, it can be scary and their will be hiccups, but a company like Apple WILL make it right one way or another.

It is definitely an issue but the bumper case solved it. Apple just needs to step and give users a free bumper case.

We put a Zagg Invisible Shield on the front and back and have no problems with the phone at all.

No signal degradation, no reception issues, no dropped calls.....maybe we got lucky.

It doesn't take much to buffer the effects of human skin coming into contact with the antenna, I wouldn't be surprised if the thin layer of the Zagg shield did the trick, and good for you!

Zagg Shield.. great idea!! I hope apple will announce at least a free bumper for the iphone 4, mine is still on order:sad2: so hopefully what ever is announced today will apply to mine!! :upsidedow

I already have a bumper and it looks like Apple will be giving me a refund. This is the right thing to do but they really should have done it sooner.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

You get a free case or you can return it for a full unconditional refund if you are unhappy.

They will also help you get out of your AT&T contract if need be.

What more can you ask for?

Still loving mine.

Best phone I've ever owned.

I love this quote :

“I can understand why you'd recall a car. I can understand why you'd recall a baby product,” Needham & Co. analyst Charles Wolf told the San Jose Mercury News this week. “But you don't recall a phone that drops calls. That's preposterous.”

Uhm, what if the product is a PHONE? :confused3

I honestly believe we are slowly being conditioned to accept inferior quality for premium $$$.

I don't feel my phone is an inferior product..... but if you do, you are able to return it for an unconditional refund and Apple will help you get out of your contract.

Seems to me like they are standing behind their product.

Have they tried making a phone that i dunno WORKS?

I've never dropped a call and although I can make it 'drop 'bars'', I have to try really hard and even then it doesn't always do it!

I kind of equate some of this fuss to the way Pete and John we're talking about Disney and the Internet in the fact that there is an awful lot of 'bandwagon jumping', if that makes sense.

Still, if Apple are giving out free Bumpers (not confirmed for the uk?), I won't say no ;)

:goodvibes

They were talking about this on the radio this morning - it's the area that seems to be affecting the phone, not the phone itself. A lot of people in this area were calling in to say that they could not make any calls at all, and if they made a call, it was being dropped. People who were calling in from Florida were saying that they had no problems at all.

I've got the same ZAGG Shield and Griffin Reveal for mine.

This engadget article has an update regarding UK at the bottom

It says yes, their reporter did go to an Apple store and got a refund for the bumper.
