I realize there are many other problems in the world. However, I am having a night of complete panic. We leave for our FIRST family trip on Wed (6 am flight).

My DD6 put herself in bed at 4 for a nap. That should have been my first clue. I woke her up at 6:30 after taking her temp as she slept. Yup, 101 temp. She's awake now, dry cough and headache. Of course, acute care clinic is closed. Looks like we'll be making a trip to acute care a hour away in the morning. She's eating toast and drinking water, but looks really tough.

I guess we should be lucky it's a few days out. I was going to start packing today, but decided to hold off until after the Dr. I hope he can give DD9 something and DH, and myself "just in case"....

Grrrr... not a way to start off my dream vacation..

Could use some positive thoughts!
Thanks!

Oh no, I'll definitly be sending you good vibes. One of my biggest fears is one of us getting sick or hurt right before or during our trip. Hopefully she'll be able to get plenty of rest and the Dr. can give her some strong meds.

oh no, I hope that she feels better and that all of you can get some sort of "just in case" meds for the trip!

I hope she starts feeling better. I would run to the drug store and get some Zicam now and start chewing them. My DNPHW was sick last week and out of school all week even after visiting the doctor, I started to feel like I was getting sick, run down, sore throat etc.. I went and got some Zicam and felt better the next day, I had my DD5 chew a tablet a day too and we both turned out ok even though I had the same symptoms he started with.

Good Luck!

Sending positive thoughts your way. That is my biggest worry, that someone in our group gets sick just before or during the trip.

It happened to us too. We went to WDW on our boys first trip with little pink bottles of antibiotics. I know it is not fun. You've caught it early though and chances are she'll feel much better by the time you leave. Do the best you can to keep everyone else healthy!

I soooo feel your pain. We leave on Friday and I'm sitting here right now listening to ds coughing from his bed....he also has a bit of a stuffy nose. Here's hoping it doesn't progress, but he has asthma and a cold usually gets the best of him. I busted out the Zicam as soon as it started and gave it to the whole family....I swear by that stuff!!

Oh no, wellness vibes your way.

I have the same dreaded feeling. We leave in 6 days. Friday we were at a church for a class and I let the two younger ones play in the nursery area. Then I noticed it didn't look like it had been "cleaned". I FREAKED. Put hand sanitizer on them and got out of there. We went and washed our hands.

My friend thought I was being crazy, but I don't know that church and didn't want to risk them getting sick with only a week to go.

I hope everything works out for you guys! :grouphug:I'm sure it will be fine...Your departure day is a few days away...so hopefuly some meds would have kicked in by then! REST...REST...REST and lots of fluids.

You know what always makes me feel almost 100% better? They sell different fruit NECTER in the latin section of the grocery store. It's a little thicker than juice, but it is PACKED with vitamins and electrolytes. I had a hrad time drinking it because it's a little thick, but my kids LOVE it! I just slam back the can. I makes me feel SO much better especailly when I can't eat. It's got just enough body to make you feel like you ate.:thumbsup2

Sending positive thoughts your way!

Chances are it's just a beginning of the season cold/virus. That's not that high of a fever for a little one, and rarely will they have a fever for more than a couple of days. Just push the fluids big time and make sure she gets lots of rest. She'll be all better by Wednesday. Around us, a doctor wouldn't do anything until the child had a fever for several days, and at that, they say "oh it's a virus, if the cough doesn't go away in 2 weeks come back" Drives me bonkers!

Zicam, LOTS of fluids and rest..she'll be fine.:) Positive thoughts!

I am right there with you! We leave Wednesday @ 7am. DD has started with a runny nose and cough...no fever yet. I am praying it does not progess anymore. We are all doing Zicam and drinking lots of water. I've also been taking Airborne since everytime she gets something I seem to get it 10x worse!

Good luck to you! I hope we both have a sick free trip!

Aw that stinks. Luckly you have a few days for her to get a bit better. Were going durring the height of cold and flu season (NOT my choice) and I'm really worried about it too. Good luck, hopefully when she gets the to MK, all her illnesses will magically dissapear!!!

Oh, I'm thinking good thoughts for you. Hopefully the worst of it will be over in 2 days!

I went to the doctor a few weeks ago with a sore throat and cough. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't have Strep- I usually get it once a year.

The doctor told me it was just a virus and that the 3rd day would be the worst and then I should start feeling better. She was right, the 3rd day was the worst. She said to gargle with salt water 5X a day.

I also have asthma and she said to use my inhalers (I usually only use them when I have an attack) every day until I was better.

If it's just a virus, then your daughter should be feeling better by Wednesday. I hope it's just a little virus and she is better really soon.

That's rough. I hope you're not going by plane, I'd have to cancel or postpone if I was in that position. What's the karmic load for inflicting the average one week cold on about 238 fellow passengers? Dry, recycled air in a tin can is about a perfect recipe for sharing sinus infections. If you'll be driving to the parks, and it's just a cold, I wouldn't worry about missing the trip itself. I would stick to my hotel room until the symptoms are gone, both to prevent spreading the cold and to make sure your daughter recovers faster so she can enjoy herself.

Fortunately, kids bounce back from most colds pretty quick, and it definitely sounds like a cold in your child's case, as opposed to a flu (the lower temperature, lack of aches or GI distress). My daughter "checked out" a cold from the library yesterday and is just about herself again this morning, just a bit congested and the tiniest bit warm. It's a virus, what can you do? There's really no way to hurry it along and I'm not about to trouble the doctor over it unless there's evidence she's having trouble. It's cliche, but naps and chicken soup work wonders. Everyone seems to recover faster if we take it easy, which I understand must be difficult with a trip hanging in the balance. If we go out, we head to an uncrowded, outdoors place such as a park. Being cooped up all day doesn't seem to make her recover faster either.

Oh, I feel your pain! When we went on our last trip in Jan 2008 DD told me about an hour before we were leaving for the airport (it was about 5 a.m.) that she had a little bit of a sore throat. Well, I didn't think much of it until she woke up the next morning (our first full day in Disney) and had a temp of 103 and a wicked sore throat. I took her to the minute clinic that the Resort recomended and it turned out that she had strep and a double ear infection. We were given antibiotics for 10 days but by the next day she was back to her old self (she bounces back quickly). She still spent the entire vacation and the first few days of being home taking her meds.
