Third Week in August

I recently decided to go to WDW this summer while my DD was on summer break. I usually go in the off season and I'm concerned about the crowds in the summer. I'm going from August 18 to 25. When do the crowds start to thin out with kids going back to school?

I went the third week in August last year, and found the crowds to be very overwhelming at times. I also usually travel off season. I remember looking at the sea of people in Frontierland one afternoon, and just feeling like I couldn't be there anymore. Even with the good use of fast passes, we felt like we missed many things we would have liked to have seen during our trip.

Karen and I were the same time frame last year. But I choose to call it the fourth week for this year. I'll be there the week before you, the third week. However, yes...it was crowded last year. I think a lot of that was due to the FTP being offered. I don't think the package this year is as good or the AP rates for the rooms. So I think it will be less crowded. But, you are going the week after me. That should be a great time. Yes, a lot of the schools are back in session. It will get crowded as you get to Labor Day week-end but that's after you've left. The parks start shortening their hours starting mid-August. Hoping they release the park hours soon. Bring your ponchos...it can get rainy. Take your time in touring...it gets hot/humid. But, otherwise...have a great time. See you there.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'd better pack a little patience then. If I'm prepared for the crowds, I can only be pleasantly surprised if I don't experiencing them. I am upset that I see they stop E-ride night the week before I go. I wonder why they only have them in the beginning of August. Do they ever add to them if the crowds are larger than expected? I was hoping to take advantage of that since I know I won't get to ride everything I want to each day.

I'm going the week of Aug 13th- Aug 20th......I'm hoping for "not a bad crowd"....I can make with not "walking on" for every ride, but I don't want it to be unbearable.

My parents and brother are going July 8th-13th, right after the fourth, for a dance competition, I think the crowds then will be A LOT heavier than the crowds in August. I couldn't take both time off of work so I decided to go on my birthday for a week instead of five days....and going with three of my great friends;)

I think you'll see them continue into the following week at least. When we were there last August the last E-night was the 22nd. I don't remember if they added any at the last minute after that.

Hi Twinkles -

I'll be celebrating my birthday while I'm there also - 8/22. What a great excuse to go to WDW!

I was also there the week of 8/17 to 8/24, but I didn't think the crowds were too bad (However Christmas is my reference for crowded). We made sure we were at parks for openings, used FP, enight, afternoon breaks and had a great time. We personally enjoy Epcot and MGM a lot, and may spend less time in MK than some families do. We don't do a lot in Fantasyland or Toontown.

we have gone the last 3 - 4 summers in Aug, 1 year in june. the year of FTP was a total NIGHTMARE, i would never go again if they had that. also we might be going around the 20ish this summer to , but am wondering about the pay for 5 and get 2 free, that might make it more crowded to. we are still debating, cause i would like to go when they have the holiday lights up. but we will see. we still had a great time, oh yeah last summer was the 1st for AWFUL RAIN and STORMS EVERY DAY that was awful but we made the best of it. you will still have fun......
