Third Wave is Here...

It's a weird feeling to see a lot of countries moving on more so, and Canada having another large wave and associated reactions...I have a lot of friends in the UK, and things are starting to open up there, as well as we see things are getting so much more open in the states...aka people in stadiums, travelling and vacationing as normal, all that..I just want to see my sister and family in Alberta (I'm in BC) but who knows even when that will be
Agreed but at the same time those countries have vaccinated a lot more people then we have. By summer things will be better hopefully. We have to keep vaccinating people

Just 2 quick comments about comparing our progress in combatting COVID-19

When we look at countries across the pond - of course they're further ahead of us. Same as we watched in horror for ~2 months before it hit us. Can't compare that, they even say that those of us west of Toronto can see a ~2 week lag in the increase in cases and that's been happening from the beginning.

When we look at other countries and how they're doing with vaccination rates - we don't produce any of them so we're at the mercy of the supply chain. Some parts of the world won't see ANY vaccines until some point in 2023 :( We need to look at other countries our size with the same handicap, not countries that produce it themselves. Even if we see it as vaccine hoarding, of course they want to give their citizens the jab before sharing

And remember, the UK was hit really really hard. And stayed in lockdown from Dec to March. I am far, far happier to be in Canada where it has been a lot safer than being in the UK or the US for over a year now. Even if it is taking us a little longer now.

I don't blame the UK and US for vaccinating their citizens first. Canadians would be in uproar if we were manufacturers and sent the precious vaccines elsewhere before our own citizens were protected.

Hopefully soon the US will have a surplus and some can come our way :)

Sure can't wait for all this to be over though! My prediction is that any travel and dining that survives COVID will explode with business when we are free to go out again.

I agree with Donald on we have huge handicaps to try to roll out the vaccine into the arms of everyone who wants them. We are at the mercy of the suppliers, and our government for not procuring and have more solid contracts that don't have penalties for the shortages we are experiencing.

BUT

On the other hand, with some of the provinces opening up the age restrictions for us who are 40+ and how many people ran out and booked appointments, stood in lines. So many JUST WANT ALL OF THIS TOOOOOO END!!!!!! We are dealing with children who are in school, working full-time either in person or from home, we have parents that are young seniors, and some still have older senior grandparents. It's a very big plate we have to balance.

I was excited and sad to hear that already in Alberta, we have used up a good portion of what was available, and some places don't have any more vaccine until we get another shipment. So the demand is there!

And yes...I don't blame other countries for vaccinating their own people first!!!!!! So many other countries have been hit WAYYYYYYYYYYY harder than we ever were. The numbers we have had are NOT nearly as they are in other countries. As sobering as our numbers are, they could be very different if we had not done our lockdowns as we did previously.

NS got 25 cases today, cripes. 90% of our cases are travel outside of Atlantic Canada. I am not sure why they are not using rapid tests at the airport for Canadian travelers who do not have to stay at the quarantine hotels.

But now there is community spread. I can just feel a shutdown of some sort looming.

I'm a tad concerned that theyll just send Johnson and Johnson :p

It wasn't that long ago that Americans were specifically choosing J&J because there were fewer chances of allergic reactions. And of course, the convenience of one shot. Funny how things change.

That said, I agree with you. My guess is Americans will avoid J&J and AZ shots. They have plenty of Pfizer and Moderna so it makes sense for them.

That's not actually correct - Canada has already received 1.5 million doses of AZ from the American stocks and Mexico has received over 2 million.

I posted hours before that announcement was made and I'm pleased to see the change. I've gone back and deleted that part of my post and I'd appreciate you doing the same. Just one more piece of an ever evolving situation. I'm sure I'm not the only person who thought it was unreasonable for anyone to hoard a vaccine they weren't even using.

Edited to nothing because I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo angry and upset about the variants that keep coming into the country instead of people growing a set and slam the boarders closed...no one IN OR OUT for countries with variants .... UNITL...our government and officials can come up with a game plan that DOESN'T INCLUDE never ending restrictions or lock downs.

It’s either an enforceable policy or not... seems like not. Meanwhile new variants arrive from abroad.
Yup....the new double variant from India has arrived to Alberta. I am beyond frustrated.

There are a few people who will need to travel internationally for various reasons I understand and get that...but I am beyond frustrated as I sit at home and do nothing but go to work and home. We have a VERY small family bubble we do keep ( because tomorrow is NEVER guaranteed ) but that is IT. I'm tired. The mental health of my 18 and 20 yr boys is very low. This is not a counselling issue....it is a " not being able to be a normal 18 and 20 yr old life issue" It's been a year, and the government's best response is to roll out more restrictions and lock downs. They have had over a year to get their s#%t together and come up with better plans. I'm beyond frustrated now.

But yet.... Trudeau is talking about how he is hopeful HE will be able to go to the G7 summit in June.....um HELLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Why should you be able to go to pointless fancy dinners and chin waggling while you can't come up with better strategies than restrictions and lockdowns. It's a big heaping pile of rotting stinking whale po-op from the bottom of the ocean floor is what that is.
