I recently applied for a job and had my initial interview on January 31st. Incidentally, I used to work for this company years ago. This interview was with the HR person who was screening applicants. As requested, I brought a few writing samples (this is a copywriting position).

The following week, I had my second interview with the department manager. Midway through the interview, she called in the other two people who comprise the department. At the end of the interview, I was given an editing assignment to take home and mail in when completed (which I did two days later).

So, another week passed and I didn't hear anything. I do know that they were checking my references, though, because the people they called let me know. Today, the HR person who first interviewed me called to set up a third interview. :faint: This time I will be meeting with an executive vice president.

Are three interviews common? I've been out of the corporate world for a while, so I really don't know if this is the norm. All I know is that I'm running out of good interview outfits and intelligent things to say. :lmao:

Some background: Prior to becoming a SAHM six years ago, I worked at this company for four years. This position is completely unrelated to my previous position there.

Any advice, opinions, and/or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated! :teeth:

In '94 I had 3 interviews with the company I wound up working for. The first was a preliminary interview with HR, basically confirming the information in my resume. The second was with the manager I would be working under. He wanted to go more in-depth into my skills and background, and what kind of person I was. The third was typically the manager's manager; however, she was out of the office, so I interviewed with another manager that I wouldn't report to, but would work closely with. He asked a lot of questions about my soft skills, like teamwork, problem management and working under pressure.

Obviously they wouldn't bother with subsequent interviews if you hadn't passed the previous one(s), so I think it's a good sign. Hang in there!

Yes, Corp is re structed and sometimes it's alot more.

My dh had 8 interviews and 6 months of waiting.............18 years later we're glad we both had the patience to wait:confused3  :surfweb:
it out!!!lol
hang in there, looks very favorable for you!
let us know what happens
good luck!

Sounds about right. I usually meet with the manager then their manager, skipping the HR person. If you met the HR person first, then a third interview sounds good.

Good luck!!
:thumbsup2

Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement. Now, does anyone have a suit I can borrow? LOL!

I'll post an update--good or bad--as soon as I hear anything.

Just wear the same suit again. It is acceptable unless the interviews are a day apart.

Multiple interviews are not uncommon depending on the position/level of responsibility. The fact that they have called your references and are having you back is very positive.

Good luck.

I'm calling some candidates tomorrow to set up their third interviews. It can be very common given the industry and/or company. Best of luck to you!

Definitely! You can perhaps wear a different blouse to change the look a bit. But with so many businesses having 'business casual' dress, it's probably pretty common to have only one or two suits in the closet.

I wanted to update anyone who is interested.

I GOT THE JOB!!!!!

During the third interview, I met with the executive VP who all but gave me the job. He said, "I'm glad you're coming back to Company X where you belong." The department manager seemed surprised when he said that. Once the VP left, she told me it was between another candidate and myself.

That was last Wednesday. Since I hadn't heard anything, I was starting to look for a rejection letter in the mail. Well, they just called and made me a conditional offer--contingent on a background check. ::cop: This is one of those times I'm thankful that I've had such a boring life. LOL!

You DISers will appreciate this: Before I accepted, I made sure to let them know I need time off for our cruise/WDW trip in September. :rotfl:

Thanks again to everyone who gave me encouragement.

I think that is FANTASTIC!!!! CONGRATULATIONS six times over, you must be so excited pixiedust:

Congrats and nice job getting the cruise time in! :thumbsup2

Thanks, everyone!

I'm a little nervous about officially rejoining the workforce. Over the last year, I've done some marketing/sales work for a new hotel, but it was very flexible. If I had something to else to do that day, I didn't go in or I went in a different day.

I am excited, though. It's a small department (I'll be the fourth person) made up of moms. LOL! The boss seems really cool and laidback. The nice thing is the hours will allow me to be home before the kids get out of school. DD4 starts all-day kindergarten in July, so my parents will watch her until then and will watch both kids whenever there's a school break.

Congrats! Congrats!! Now I need you to spread some of those vibes over here as have a 3rd interview on Friday!! :goodvibes

pixiedust: Good luck! What job are you interviewing for? Let us know how it goes.
