Thinking way far in advance...

Hi guys! I just joined because I figured my family and roommate were tired of hearing my ideas about my future and Disney. I'm currently a junior studying Criminology & Investigations, Russian Studies, and Slavic and East Euro. Studies. I've already pushed out my schedule to graduate a semester later (December '09) because I'm just not ready to leave :P and when I found out about the college program, I decided I really wanted to do it. Then I became stressed about when I would do it without pushing my graduation date back another semester, when I found out from the website that if you're a graduating senior you can still do the semester after you graduate. That made my week!

Anyways, there are a few questions I have, even though I really have a year before I need to start stressing about this. Thanks in advance for any answers :)

1. Have any of you done the CP with criminology/criminal justice majors? What was the experience like with that?

2. I have very limited work experience. As in pretty much none. I never got to have summer jobs while in high school because my younger brother has disabilities so I helped out my parents by watching him in the summers. I started my first job last semester, where I work for the Arts and Entertainment division of my school at shows. I either usher, take tickets, sell concessions, or sometimes guard backstage as security. I figured for Disney this would be a great work experience, right? That's the only thing that totally stresses me out, the idea of being rejected because I will have only had one job for two and a half years. Aside from that though, I'm studying abroad this summer and I have a lot of volunteer experience with my roommate's non-profit.

I'm also crossing my fingers for some type of internship next summer, so that would help my work experience as well, right?

3. I'm only really interested in character performing, character attendant, and attractions. Is it bad to have such a narrow list?

4. I'll hopefully be proficient in Russian and ASL by then - if I'm accepted and all that yadda yadda yadda, will I be able to take the language test to have those on my nametag since I'd be in the CP? I just wasn't sure if only full-time CMs were allowed to have that or what.

I feel like I had a ton more questions, but I can't think of them right now. Thank you so much though - I've been reading through the previous posts and you all seem so helpful! :)

Hi there.

1) I don't know the answer for that one

2) They don't hire people based on how much work experience. When I did my first CP, it was my first job- ever.

3) I would say it should be fine. I only chose 3 roles for my first and second CPs.

4) CPs can take the test to get the language flag. I hope to get the ASL one this summer.

Oh, and welcome to the DIS!!

Having the experience you've had helping with your brother can be to your benefit. Part of our training covers guests with disabilities and I believe having first hand experience would benefit you. A point to keep in mind when you interview if it applies to the questions you are asked.

Seriously? The work experience thing has made my day! I was worried that would be a big problem. Thank you!

Really? Ahh, that's awesome. I know when I interviewed for my current job I couldn't help but bring up my brother whenever my experiences with him would fit a question, so that's not hard to keep in mind at all. Thanks!

just because you did not get paid to do it does not mean you did not work.

I am sure having a strong work history is a good thing to have but everyone starts with none at some time in our lives. Just pull from what you got to showcase your strengths.
