Thinking on getting an iPhone 4.......Anyone have one right now?

Yeah I'm w/ Verizon too and got an email today telling me about that $100 thing off of a new smartphone. I have been waiting for the next release of iPhone since March, so I'm holding out. My LG Dare is about 3 1/2 yrs old and still works, for the most part, so I'm waiting! I am a pretty big Mac person, so I can't wait to use iPhone for my iCal, besides all of the other apps that I have been waiting ever so patiently for. Good luck!

If that $15 is for the data plan, if you plan use the internet a lot or watch many videos on a non WIFI connection, the $15 plan won't get you very far. I believe the $15 plan is 250MB a month which wouldn't even last me 3 days but I am constantly using my iPhone to go on the internet and watch YouTube videos.

Ditto to the above. 250MB a month is a tiny amount of data for many/most people.

The iPhone is far superior to Android phones. I had the original Droid for 1 1/2 years and got Verizon's iPhone 4 in May and will never look back. From what I've read, the 5 won't be too different -- maybe a slightly faster processor and a different shell?

No. The issue isn't the iPhone itself, it's the type of network. Verizon uses a CDMA cellular network, which doesn't support that feature. Considering that there are billions and billions of dollars invested in the current CDMA network, I really don't see that changing.

That being said...I've owned both the original Motorola Droid (which had the capability to talk and surf at the same time) and the iPhone 4 over the course of the last 3 years. Not once during that time have I needed to talk and surf the web at the same time.

I see Verizon has many different insurance plans. I was actually thinking of skipping the insurance. I have never once used insurance, and I have many phones that I could fall back on (like my droid) if need be.
Do any of you guys go without the insurance?? I really don't want to pay $10 a month for insurance. The verizon tech said if anything happens to the phone I can't take it into a verizon store, it has to be mailed to apple.

And how do the batteries work on the iphone?? I was looking at what the cost was of an extra battery for the iphone but see that there was no extra batteries on verizons website?

I got an iPhone two months ago. I had a regular cellphone before that and hardly ever used it. I was worried that this might be a waste of money, that I wouldn't use it - but I LOVE it. Really love it. It is super easy to use even for someone very non-techy like me. All the apps (and lots are free) make it useful in a lot of different ways.

The battery recharges when you plug it into your computer.

Things I like about mine: doing facetime with my son who lives in another city. Listening to podcasts while I'm driving somewhere. Checking for vegan restaurants nearby when I'm in a different town using the Happy Cow app. How EASY it is to make calls, check messages, etc, compared to my old phone.

The battery is internal, just like on an iPod and doesn't switch out like on a traditional cell phone. Like the above poster said you can charge it via your USB port (like an iPod) or with the wall adapter that comes with the phone. I also bought a cigarette lighter plug in very cheaply.

When I am not using the phone as an iPod or doing a ton of texting or surfing (just on standby) the battery life is exceptional. Just like a regular phone. And again, just like a regular phone the battery life decreases the more I use the phone for other things. I use the phone at work all day to listen to podcasts (Disney podcasts being my fave ofc) so just plug it into my work computer when the battery gets low. You do not need a computer with iTunes loaded on it in order to charge the phone.

Like someone else said there are plenty of free apps out there and Apple has free games of the week every week as well. I have gotten a lot of cool games this way!

So that you have "all the facts" -- the fact that you cannot talk and surf on a Verizon iPhone has to do with the network type, not whether or not it is 3G. Verizon uses CDMA, AT&T (and several other carries) use GSM.

Verizon uses CDMA and LTE. The point I made was regarding 4G phones on Verizon being able to talk and surf at the same time, which they can.

AT&T also will be using LTE.

love, love, love my iPhone. I am on my 3rd one. Original 3G, then a 3Gs, now the 4. I may get the 5 when it comes out. Hubby has an upgrade. LOL. If I do, he will get my 4 and daughter will get his 3Gs. You will love it. Then again I am a big apple fan.

The original Droid can't surf and talk at the same time, as you pointed out it is a CDMA phone.

As to the CDMA network, it is going away sooner rather than later. Verizon is investing billions, as is AT&T, in LTE. This 4G technology has two main advantages, higher capacity and IP voice traffic. The savings the carriers will realize by switching everyone over to VOIP will be massive. This is why 4G is being rolled out so aggressively, and why they will also be quick to turn off the expensive 3G sites once 4G is well established. This isn't 1 year away, but likely in the 3 - 4 year range.

At the same time Sprint rolled out an LTE alternative WiMAX, which didn't work out, and are now switching over to LTE themselves. CDMA is expensive, carriers want it gone.

Talking about the realistic capabilities now, it's probably more relevant to refer to what can be done for MOST people at the moment. Your initial post was unclear and mixed talk about 3G and 4G, so to say it had "all the facts" wasn't very accurate. Just throwing some more information out there.

I'm not at all interested in the new iPhone unless it runs on the new LTE network. If it doesn't, I'll probably sell my iPhone 4 and get the soon to be released Droid Bionic.

I like others love my IPhone. This is my first Smartphone so I can't compare it to others...but I can tell you mine is an AT&T so I can surf and talk at the same time. I have had occasions to need it. As far as the insurance goes we did not get it. I think Verizion charges $10 a month with a deductable of $169

By the way someone else mentioned you can get the 16g Refurbishes Iphone 4 for $99
