Thinking of opening a DVA. Will this work?

I have a small trip coming up on May that I already have around $300 in Disney gift cards purchased. We have a much larger trip next March. Can I open a DVA now with the gc's I have on hand, take those funds out right before the May trip, (I know I won't earn the $20/$1000 spent because the account won't have been open long enough) and just leave the account open? My plan would be to add several thousand dollars of Disney gc's just before the March trip and hopefully get the $20/$1000 then.

You can't open a DVA with gift cards but there's no harm in opening the account now. It just needs a $10 minimum credit card contribution.

Yes you can. You simply set the initial $10 to draw at a future date, which allowas you to know pen the account, then deposit a gift card, and cancel the future deposit.

Now that you mention it, I think I have heard of that. I opened mine a while ago and I think I just did the $10 contribution. I just don't know if adding gift cards to a DVA this late in the game is a good idea. In reality, OP should be able to get the funds put back to the original form of payment or made into one card but I wouldn't chance it if I needed those funds for a month from now. I've had great luck with DVA but many others have not.

I don't think I'd bother opening now. If you want, you can combine the gift cards on the Disney gift card website, but since it's only $300, I wouldn't bother adding to the DSA and then removing. That said, I do like the DSA and have had no problems adding to it for our upcoming trip.

Yep. Mine has been 100% funded with gift cards. Someone on here explained this to me a year ago.

Can I keep this open even if there are no funds in it for 9 months or so?

I don't know how long you can keep it open with nothing in it, but I used up what I had and had nothing in it for about 5 months before I started depositing again for the next trip.
