Thinking of not doing MVMCP

We'll be at WDW Dec. 17-24. I read on Mousesavers that the only thing different about MVMCP is the photo and the free hot chocolate and cookies. It said once the parties are over on the 22nd all the same things are available to park guests. So I planned for us to spend all day on the 23rd at MK to experience the Christmas shows, parade, etc. I'm just wondering if this is a good thing to do. This is our first time to go to WDW during the holidays (myself, DH, DS19, DD17).

Appreciate any opinions. Thanks!

You got to go if this is your first time at WDW for the holidays! The crowds are super low, the rides are all walk ons, the parade and fire works are the best, get a free picture, get cocoa and cookies, the characters are all dressed in their holiday best, the atmosphere is amazing!

We went the first time 2 years ago and DH said it is a must that we go every year from now on!

Are all the rides open or just some of them?

Thanks!

I've done the MVMCP twice now. Last year, we went in the same time frame as you. I wish I wouldn't have spent the money for the MVMCP. I had more than enough pictures. I could catch all the special shows during regular operating hours. The only thing that might make it worthwhile is the low crowd level. But, you can go early to catch that.

We're skipping it this year, too. I think the MVMCP crowds will get heavier as the nights get closer to Christmas, so I wouldn't bank on short lines for the party nights during your timeframe. I had considered going to the 12/21 or 12/22 parties (the only ones we'll be there for), but mostly for the parade and shows. When I read on Mousesavers that we'd get to experience them for "free" (with our APs) later in the week, I danced like a banana!

Although we will probably do the MVMCP again this Dec., I'm not sure it is worth the money either. And where in the world do you all get that the crowds are low? I thought it was a ZOO!! It was nice all day until the party and then the craziness began. We did get the cookies, hot chocolate, and the picture (which was horrible). I loved the atmosphere and decorations, but just pick an EMH night and you will get nearly the same effect if you are wanting to save the money. :thumbsup2

The last 2 years we went the second weeked in Dec, had the tickets for a Sunday night and the place was empty. No lines for anything, not for pictures, not for cocoa and cookies, not for rides and the parade was wide open. We stood right in the center of Main Street and had the best view ever.

True, but the OP is going to be there for the last couple parties as the crowds are growing, I highly doubt she has as low attendence as you did. Be careful tossing out "the rides are all walk-ons," when there's a very real possibility they won't be given the crowd differences in that part of December.

That said...we're going to be there roughly the same time as the OP are are hitting the Christmas party one night while we're there. I'm not counting on walking on anything, but I am looking forward to the atmosphere. We typically don't travel to WDW during December (hey, it's hockey season, what can I say? :teeth: ), so this is our one shot at the Party during the foreseable future.

Thanks for all the opinions! We have decided to do MVMCP! We don't know when we'll be back over the holidays again and figured we at least need to do it once and see for ourselves how we like it.

We are planning on attending the party December 19th. Should I buy our tickets soon? Do I need to worry about it selling out? I assume you pay in full when you make the reservation? Do they mail you something to prove you are attending or just give you a confirmation number?

Thanks for all the opinions! I'm excited to go!

Never take the chance if you really want to go, get them ASAP, rather than regret missing it later. ;)

Disney will mail you actual tickets to the event. Be sure to check them carefully for the correct date.

I went last year for the first time. I thought it was a waste of money. We were cold (the kids had on winter coats and mittens and were still cold). The crowds were HUGE. And my kids were falling asleep way before the party was over.

I may do it again when the kids get alot older...maybe like when they're teens.

I think Disney charges too much money for these events.

We are not doing it this trip. Our kids are just too young and they would not make it past 9pm before getting cranky. It is just not worth paying the extra money and then having to miss most of it. Maybe we'll do it again when the kids are older.

:rotfl: Sorry, I found this funny. Isn't suppose to be cold at Christmas? That's why snow on main street is so special in FL.? ;)

Honestly, I am not trying to be mean :)

If we wanted cold, we would have stayed home. :sad2:
