Thinking of Camping a WDW...

We are going to get some annual passes starting the week of thanksgiving, already booked a house for that week... BUT we have an RV available to us to use any time (wife's granddad bought it and only used it a few times before health got to bad to do much), that is in good shape (95 Pace Arrow model with just 30k miles on it) but has been garage kept and kept up.

So I am really thinking a few road trips are in order (we are about 9 hours north of WDW via car)

what's the few things that i need to know and how far out do i need to start looking for camp sites?

It really depends on when you plan on going. During Christmas time, sites for a motor home are likely gone if during lower times you maybe able to drive right up without a reservation.

RVing at the Fort is the best! The Fort is the most relaxing place at WDW.

We have been rv'ing "forever", and have owned one of just about any available types of rv's. One big thing you need to consider (and this is a VERY necessary consideration) are the tires. If it's been garage kept, maintenance kept up, etc. it's the AGE, not wear, of the tires that are so important (not like a car that's used all the time). They "dry-rot" whether they are inside or not (our MH is garage kept also). The rule of thumb is to get a new set of tires every 7 years no matter if you only have 10,000mi. or whatever on it. Trust me, they're not cheap, but it's your life and the lives of others on the road that are at stake . Not trying to discourage you at all, but just wanted to point out a VERY important detail that is easy to over look unless you've had one for years. We are going to the Fort in April, and really love it there. We have gotten "spur of the moment" ressies, but it was part luck, and the time of year we have gone. Most of the time we get them a few months in advance, and longer for any holidays (which we avoid). RV'ing is great though, and if you go, have a very great trip (guarantee you will be hooked, and WILL be back)

I would 2nd previous posters comments on tires. My parents had a motorhome from 1991 until 2006 (15 years) and we learned the hard way that the tires had dryrotted at only 25000 miles. As they mentioned it was the age and not the wear that caused it. (and yes it was garage kept also).

As far as reservations we have always made them the full year in advance that they allow but we typically travel during peak times due to my wife/mother/ and sister all being teachers.

But I think you will love the fort, have been about 25 times and absoulutly love it!

Thanks North of Mouse, just found out the FIL put new tires on it sept 2011!!!
