Anything I should be aware of in regards to using my points at another resort that is not at WDW? Looking at the list of resorts, I would like to use my points to go places other than Florida sometimes.
When you want to exchange out and use your points elsewhere (not a DVC resort), you will pay a $95 transaction fee. That is true whether you exchange out for the Disney Collection (WDW hotels, DL Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo), the DCL, Adventures by Disney, or the other collections with the RCI program. Naturally ressies are also based on availability too.
I have not been a DVC member for long but many members have said that DVC is not the best timeshare if your purpose is to use it for other vacations outside of WDW.
The value comes when you use your points to stay at DVC resorts.
In addition to what these 2 posters have said, I'd just add that if you do use your points for a non-DVC resort trip and you cancel that reservation those points will become "reservation points" that will carry restrictions on where/how those points may be re-used, in particular points that become "reservation points" cannot be re-used to stay at a DVC resort.
