My DH requested information on the DVC and it arrived today. I am still on the fence on this one while he seems decided. We are thinking about the VWL. Can anyone provide some feedback on this option? Like it or another one better? Also has anyone ever stayed at any of the other non-dis related spots?
Thanks for the help.

The DVC gets my full recommendation!

We made our first DVC vacation over this past Spring Break. We were very nervous about going during such a busy time of the year... but everything was perfect. We even got into the room early! How does 11:00am sound!

If you and your enjoy the magic of Disney... this is the place for you!

are beautiful. It's the only one we've stayed at so I'm not much help. But read the boards for information and make your own decision. I for one am so glad we decided to go for it.

Here we go...........

'74, '79, '82, '86 - as a "kid"
'00 - BCR & offsite
'01 - VWL (purchase trip!)
10/01 - BW & OKW

stayed at VWL and thought it was great. We have stayed at OKW, a wonderful getaway from all of the hustle/bustle that can be Disney, I have stayed at BWV, it is a great location and quite beautiful but not quite our idea of a relaxing vacation (but choices are what make DVC great), and finally we swear by our home resort, HH, it is as good as it gets for us.

One thing to think about with DVC is a very simple item that I am sure that has been mentioned on these boards before is....say you bought 200 points at VWL for $14,400 versus staying at a resort/hotel in the Disney area that cost you $1000 a week and to keep it simple you did this for the next 40 years at the same $1000 a week (obviously inflation affects most future visits) and had to pay room tax on each visit. That amount would be around $4400 with today's room tax rates. The lack of a room tax on your DVC stay is a real bonus. You have just knocked your initial investment down to $10k. I know, I'm weird but it is something also consider.

We've stayed at all 5 of the DVC resorts at one time or another. They're all great, and they're all different as each has it's own unique setting. (It's not like going into a Wal-Mart and seeing that everything is so familiar, you almost forget what city you're in....lol)

OKW is our home resort and still our favorite, but you'll find everyone's favorite is different based on their own tastes. (I guess that's why we call them favorites ;) )

I suggest you consider the atmosphere of the different resort styles, what type of activities you enjoy, importance of proximity to the parks, etc, in deciding which resort might be best for you. Of course, if you want OKW or BWV you'd have to buy through resale. VWL is the only WDW property available thru Disney. (Don't forget the price increase coming June 3rd....)

My wife did not want to leave Pennsylvania, go to disney and spend a week in the mountains at VWL. She wants beach and palm trees. Me too. Also make sure you check out dvc-resales.com. I got 230 points at OKW for only 60.50 per point just last month. Look at that before you buy new. But if you are going to disney more than 4 times over then next 6 years...DVC is the way to go. Plus it holds its value very well. :D

We just became official DVC'ers on 4/18. It was something we were considering for a few months (I knew I wanted to do it, DH needed a little more of a push), with the upcoming point increase, we decided to do it. DH would like to travel to other places but when it came down to it WDW is going to me our main vacation destination for quite sometime, we have a 17month old and who knows maybe someday another one!! We bought at WLV our first trip will be 9/29-10/5 but we are staying at BWV in a 1br for convenience and mainly because we NEVER thought we would be able to EVER stay at the Boardwalk!! Good luck on your decision!!

We have toured the WLV's and they are very nice. As a previous poster said, you need to buy where you would enjoy staying the most. For us that is OKW. Others here like the BWV, HH and VB. If you are primarily looking at DW you should buy one of those DVC's.
Another factor would be whether you have a car when you visit. WLV is kinda like OKW and is out by itself, where BWV is located within walking distance of Epcot and MGM. We always have a car and like OKW because we can park right outside the villa.
With WLV you get the great Wilderness Lodge facility, boatride to MK and then the monorail to Epcot.

Another big plus is that we just used points to cruise with. We will be making our first trip hoome (BWV) in August and can't wait.

The biggest plus for us is that we are getting a 2BR villa to stay in. Room to spread out and a place to throw together meals and do laundry. I was tired of running around looking for a restaurant after the parks closed.

I'm getting a beautiful, larger than deluxe room for about the price (once points are paid off) of the All-Stars. I get all of that along with staying on-site. It can't get any better than that!!
