Already own at the BCV and am thinking on adding more points or even buying some points at the BWV. I do have a concern, how hard is it to get ressies w/o booking at the 11 mo window? Being from Seattle, we plan our trips out that far, but would like the luxury of making a quick trip to WDW when the rains get to be too much out here. For 2 years in a row, I've been on the waitlist for the BWV (first week of December), making the request right at the 7 month period and have yet had any luck (fortuantely, already have ressies at BCV and just want a change). This is why I'm concerned about the lack of units available on short notice, such as a month or two out.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I think it really depends on the time of year. We have all our points at AKV and found it very easy to switch to VWL this past summer at the 7 month mark. It was a slow time for DVC so that helped. It would be a much harder excercise to get something at one of the Epcot resorts during the Food & Wine Festival, or at VWL during Christmas.

We always book something during our travel dates at our home resort as a backup plan and then see how things go. Either way we have a place to stay so we are fine with whatever luck we have at the 7 month mark.

Many have mentioned that it is getting more difficult to get things on short notice (anything under 6 months) except SSR and OKW and even those are hard sometimes of year. You're failed attempt to get BWV in Dec at 7 months out reflects that the entire month of Dec has become a super high DVC demand time. There are simply a lot more people vying for VWL , BWV and BCV at 7 months out with the addition of SSR and anything not filled in the 11 month window for those resorts can be gone shortly into the 7 month window.

The more restrictive your request the harder it is for DVC to fulfill it. If you want a specific small resort at a high time - forget it! If you want a Grand Villa - forget it! If you will take any room that is available on property you have a much better chance. On occaisons I have gotten rooms two months out during off seasons. On the other hand some months in October fill up real early.

This is like airline flights - some flights fill up immediately and some you can get a ticket the day of the flight. Unlike airlines they don't increase the price as you get closer.

This is why I'm concerned about the lack of units available on short notice, such as a month or two out.

DVC sells pts with the intention of operating near 100% capacity. short notice availability is not a goal. it might work out sometimes...in slower seasons (i.e. not in december for DVC) and if you don't mind winding up in a larger resort like SSR or OKW...but generally, i would recommend putting aside money for hotel stays for short notice trips rather than adding on.

timeshares like DVC just aren't well suited for people who are looking to travel on short notice...
