Is anyone familiar with this lens. I have a D5100 and want a 70-200 but dont have money for the nikon version. i do need VR.

I have the previous version (non-OS because I shoot Pentax and have in-body SR) Sigma EX APO DG 70-200 f2.8 Macro HSM II. I love the lens. I have attached three images taken last Saturday. These are straight out of the camera JPEGS. Absolutely nothing has been done to them. You be the judge.

They look great. The sigma is roughly half the price of the Nikon version.

When I PP the images they get better. Because I shoot Pentax and wanted a 70-200 2.8 solution, my only options were the Tamron or Sigma. The Sigma has the HSM (hyper-sonic motor) which works very well for sporting events. Optically, from what I read, they were similar, so the HSM was the deciding factor for me. I am not as hung-up as some others are on OEM lenses. I will use/purchase what I need and can afford and if it happens to be a third party lens, so be it. Some others will only purchase OEM lenses and that is fine. Maybe their budget is greater than mine, but I have not been unhappy with my third party lenses.

THIS is why if I had it to do all over again I wouldn't look at anything without IS in the body. For the difference in price on some of these lenses, you could almost buy the new body!

Great shots Gianna's Papa. I better start saving my pennies..... and quarters......
