Just did a 2-way split stay at Poly and BC and loved it. We didn't find changing resorts to be a hassle at all (used bell services to transfer luggage).
To the contrary, we found that it minimized the overall abount of hassle in our vacation because we were almost always close to the parks and restaurants we planned to visit (we like to do parks from RD to around 2, R&R/swimming in the resort from 2-5, followed by a nice dinner - we prefer dinners in the resorts to the parks because we think, on average, the food and overall dining experience is better in the resorts).
For our next trip, I originally thought about doing a lodge-themed split stay at WL and AKL because I really love the theming of those two resorts. But I just can't bear missing out on Poly & BC because I love the theming of those as well (particularly Poly), plus they're just in such great locations.
So I thought, why not do a 4-way split at all of these resorts?
Anyway, here's the tenantive plan (over 10 nights):
WL 2 nights (dinners at Hoop Dee Doo and Artist Point)
Poly 3 nights (dinners at 'Ohana, Citricos, and Cali Grill)
AKL 2 nights (dinners at Boma and Jiko)
BC 3 nights (dinners at Yachtsman, Flying Fish, and Monsieur Paul)
Our transfer day from WL to Poly will likely be mostly a rest day with a late breakfast at Kona followed by a brief foray into the MK for a couple of hours, then back to Poly for R&R/swimming.
Our transfer day from Poly to AKL will likely involve going to EP in the morning via the Monorail, then, in the afternoon, taking a bus to AKL.
Our transfer day from AKL to BC will likely involve going to EP in the morning via the bus, then, in the afternoon, walking over to BC.
We'd mostly focus on visiting MK during our WL and Poly stays, visit AK on the day between our two nights at AKL, and then finish off at EP and HS during our BC stay.
We realize that our bags may not show up at the next resort until around 5 pm. This is no biggie for us (we just bring our swimsuits with us on the transfer days).
With all that being said, I still can't decide if we're crazy.
