Thinking about staying at the Boardwalk

We are planning a trip for next November. We have never stayed at the Boardwalk, and are thinking of trying it this trip. How are the buses from this resort? Do they share with any of the other Epcot resorts? I know we can walk or boat to Epcot and MGM. We have stayed at The Beach Club and love this area.

We have stayed at the Boardwalk Villas and love it. I am sure the resort is just as nice. The location is wonderful and there is a lot to do.

I would guess you mean November 08. As soon as you decide you should book it. You can always try for a discount if and when codes come out. Enjoy your vacation.

We rent a car so I can't help with the bus question. I'll agree that the Epcot resort area is terrific. The Boardwalk hotel is very nice although the appeal might be a little more toward the adult side than for the kids(not that they don't welcome children). DW and I spent an anniversary trip there a couple of years ago and thought it was great.:earsboy:

my df and i met while working at the bw 5 years ago, i love this resort. it is so fantastic and beautiful. what i love the most is that there are so many little nooks and crannies to be found!!! my favorite is the inn pool, it's so secluded...

wdwfan1--Yes we are planning Nov 2008. When and where should I look for codes?

My only complaint about staying at Boardwalk was taking the bus back from DTD, your basically the last stop and it takes forever to get back, other than that I love Boardwalk.

BW shares a bus with the S/D all the time. And you can add YC/BC to the midday routes. At the busy times of day, YC/BC have their own bus.
The DTD bus is always horrific...doesn't matter what resort you're at. I have yet to have decent bus transportation to, and from, DTD at any resort. Well, except for POR...then I can take the boat.
But, I love BW. In fact, when we first visited the BW area back in '03, my dh said that was the only place he would even consider buying DVC at. AH, okay...twist my arm. Three months later we were members.
It's an easy walk to Epcot, about 10 mins. It's a bit longer, 15-20 mins, to MGM. But, the walkway is very nice and well lit at night. I have never felt unsafe on it after dark.
There are some terrific places to eat on the boardwalk. And, it's an easy walk to YC/BC and the S/D for other choices.

It's been a few years since I've stayed at BW, but remember the parking there is tight, and may take time to find a spot.

Hopefully it has improved.

I love the Boardwalk, the CM's are wonderful. They do have a great concierge crew. The atmosphere can not be beat, something always seems to be going on. You can't beat the walk to Epcot, the walk to MGM is a little bit farther. We usually cut through Epcot to take the monorail to MK. The pool is great for kid's and my DS loved the arcade. The downtown buses are slow, I haven't stayed at a resort that they weren't. The do share the buses, but I never found it to be a big problem.

Don't know about codes, but snag a room as soon as they are available - maybe regular price and switch if a code comes out. The Food & Wine Fest is going on in November, and as that ends you roll right into the Thanksgiving holidays. The Epcot resorts have gotten very much in demand for Food & Wine and fill up fast!

Thanks everyone! I am booking today! The parking situation won't be a problem as we won't have a car.

One more question.....the rooms that include what they call a "daybed", is it roomy enough to actually sleep on? We have a 15 year old son, and a 17 year old daughter....thought one of them could sleep on that, otherwise I'll be sleeping with daughter and my husband with my son!!:confused3

I believe that the daybed isn't really all that big. It's more like a bench with pillows but a younger child (10 and under) might be able to sleep on it. Depending on your daughter's (or son's) size, they might be able to fit on it.

The busses: It's true that BW shares the bus routes with Swan and Dolphin. The bus first stops at BW to pick up guests (so you'll typically get a seat), then goes over to the Swan and then goes over to the Dolphin and THEN heads on to the parks. The drop-off from the parks is reversed. Dolphin, then Swan, THEN BW. What some folks do (especially if it's a DTD bus that will also go to YC, then BC, THEN BW) is get off at the Swan and walk over to the BW from there. Most times you'll beat the bus back to the BW. If you have a nice seat on the bus and don't mind waiting to get to the BW, then just sit tight. We've gotten off at the Swan several times but only if we're standing on the bus ride or our kids are excessively fussy or we're coming back from DTD and don't want to make two extra stops.

The bus service really is pretty good on average. Even when we JUST miss a bus, there's typically another one within 20 mins.

The only negatives I have to say about the Boardwalk are 1. there is no food court/counter service/fast food that is decent in that area and 2. the rooms could really use some sprucing up. That being said, the area is wonderful and there is plenty to do. Oh, the room service at dinnertime was pretty bad.

The daybed is designed more for someone younger. My DD was 7 last time we stayed there and she was barely able to use it.

We love the Boardwalk resort. The pool is great and the location is right in the middle of everything.

The buses can be a hassle and sharing stops with S/D and YC/BC can take a while to get to your destination.
