A guide at DVC told you there would be an announcement tomorrow about how resales are treated? I really hope not since we are in ROFR right now!!
You received an email with actual purchase info back from a Guide in sales at DVC? That is very odd! We have been consistently told that CMs are not allowed to conduct business via email. All of the communication we have received is in the form of phone calls or emails that simply say, "May I call you? When is a convenient time?" We have also received typed letters via mail or handwritten notes of thanks, but never an email with specifics. The one exception to this rule was when we had an issue during a stay and our Guide couldn't reach us by phone. She sent an email with a summary of who she had contacted on our behalf and information regarding how to resolve the issue because she knew time was of the essence (our stay was ending soon).Just an update. We put an offer on a resale and it got accepted. I received this from my sales agent "name omitted"
"Thanks for the update. We will have to agree to disagree because I like the decision. It will be announced tomorrow. Good Luck "
The previous email was my email to him saying we decided on a resale because when this decision on the policy change goes into effect ide lose less money on a resale than selling my direct points".
So seems like we have a date penciled in for an "announcement"
Not for nothing, but I believe in MA if a Sales person lied this overtly it would be illegal. Why and how is this tolerated by the state of Florida if this is false?
That was copied and pasted. Names Omitted. IF he is in fact telling the truth anyone who is now going through the process should have the ability to withdraw their agreements. I certainly will, its no longer worth the dollar per point I bid on. Thankfully i'm within the 10 days.
There's an excellent article by a CPA on TUG entitled Income Taxes and Timeshares. At the bottom of the article is the statement, "Many tax return preparers improperly handle the last two topics. Consider taking a copy of the pertinent sections of this article to your tax advisor."H an R block has done my taxes for years and I always get a tax deduction for dvc. Hope she knows what she is doing!
I am in possession of the Email.. It was sent to me. Its got all our back and forth that is proof that its for the DVC. Im not lying here and am more than willing to show it privately if it came down to credibility. As far as Tomorrow...
Tuesday (January 18th) is when this so called announcement will happen.

I'm not saying you are lying in my post. I'm saying your Guide is stepping way outside the guidelines that are followed by most Disney Guides. Knowing that he is already stepping outside those bounds, it does make me wonder if he is straying in other areas too, such as HONESTY. See what I mean? If you already know someone is not upstanding in one area of his position, you can't really rely on him to be upstanding in others either. If that announcement doesn't come tomorrow, I think you should forward that email in its entirety to Member Administration. In that case, the Guide should be fired for attempting to scare folks into purchasing through him.I am in possession of the Email.. It was sent to me. I guess we will see tomorrow... Im not saying its a rumor or not since I have in writing from a Disney official that it is happening I assume it is. If it does not happen as he said, there may be hell to pay.
Funny thing was.. I was going to buy through Disney until he told me that.
Really, this is a slippery slope. In the short run, this will raise prices (from now until mid-February). After that, resale prices may drop, but the demand to Disney for direct purchases will increase.... so that increases the probability that a low priced resale will be ROFR'd. If a buyer is predominantly purchasing to stay at the 11 DVC resorts (which includes Hawaii, GCV, VB and HHI) or trading in to RCI, then the personal value of the points via resale really won't change considerably after March 20. I suppose it all comes down to whether your plan was to flip your resale or use it until expiration. If you planned to use it, I'd go through with the purchase.Your guy was right! It was announced this morning...we are in ROFR right now so I'm wondering if we should let the contract go to see how far prices will drop...or keep the contract because we will almost certainly close before Mar 20, and keep the benefits (even if we probably won't use them).
Yes, my DH points out that we thought the price was good before the announcement, and nothing has really changed for us so we should just keep it.

There is an official release posted on the DVCMember.com site. I quoted it here:What my agent said and I do find odd is, why was this released in this manner and not with any specific disney people quoted or an official release?
