Thinking about purchasing.

A guide at DVC told you there would be an announcement tomorrow about how resales are treated? I really hope not since we are in ROFR right now!!

That was copied and pasted. Names Omitted. IF he is in fact telling the truth anyone who is now going through the process should have the ability to withdraw their agreements. I certainly will, its no longer worth the dollar per point I bid on. Thankfully i'm within the 10 days.

Just an update. We put an offer on a resale and it got accepted. I received this from my sales agent "name omitted"

"Thanks for the update. We will have to agree to disagree because I like the decision. It will be announced tomorrow. Good Luck "

The previous email was my email to him saying we decided on a resale because when this decision on the policy change goes into effect ide lose less money on a resale than selling my direct points".

So seems like we have a date penciled in for an "announcement"

Not for nothing, but I believe in MA if a Sales person lied this overtly it would be illegal. Why and how is this tolerated by the state of Florida if this is false?
You received an email with actual purchase info back from a Guide in sales at DVC? That is very odd! We have been consistently told that CMs are not allowed to conduct business via email. All of the communication we have received is in the form of phone calls or emails that simply say, "May I call you? When is a convenient time?" We have also received typed letters via mail or handwritten notes of thanks, but never an email with specifics. The one exception to this rule was when we had an issue during a stay and our Guide couldn't reach us by phone. She sent an email with a summary of who she had contacted on our behalf and information regarding how to resolve the issue because she knew time was of the essence (our stay was ending soon).

It was my understanding that this was standard policy, since the same informatoin was stated by both our previous (awful) Guide and our new (super) Guide. Has anyone else received similar comments from their Guide?

I'm really interested in how this plays out. CMO, pass the popcorn, please! popcorn:

So you personally didn't get this email? Where did you find this post then?

H an R block has done my taxes for years and I always get a tax deduction for dvc. Hope she knows what she is doing!
There's an excellent article by a CPA on TUG entitled Income Taxes and Timeshares. At the bottom of the article is the statement, "Many tax return preparers improperly handle the last two topics. Consider taking a copy of the pertinent sections of this article to your tax advisor."

Luckily, hubby, son-in-law, and daughter are all accountants, so I've got a brain trust available for our personal situation. Everybody's situation is unique, so you would need to seek advice based on your own circumstances. But, remember, those working for H&R Block and other tax preparation services are often seasonal employees who receive a crash course each year in the rules. They do not have to be accountants to be placed in a tax adviser position. It's possible that your preparer does not have expertise in the tax policies pertaining to your situation, so it would be a good idea to ask about the credentials of whoever is preparing your return.

Yes, please clarify.

The way I understood this thread is that you have been talking to a guide who tried to scare you away from the resale market due to impending changes but after doing your homework, you decided to go resale anyway and after breaking the news to your guide, he is now telling you that the impending changes will be announced tomorrow? Is that right?

And by tomorrow, is that today or Tuesday?

Very interesting.

I am in possession of the Email.. It was sent to me. Its got all our back and forth that is proof that its for the DVC. Im not lying here and am more than willing to show it privately if it came down to credibility. As far as Tomorrow...

Tuesday (January 18th) is when this so called announcement will happen.

YIKES!! I hope I can still back out of my contract if something really restrictive is announced! And if not someone should file a complaint against your guide, surely it is illegal to make false claims like that!

Thank you for the clarification and the head's up. ;)

I'm not saying you are lying in my post. I'm saying your Guide is stepping way outside the guidelines that are followed by most Disney Guides. Knowing that he is already stepping outside those bounds, it does make me wonder if he is straying in other areas too, such as HONESTY. See what I mean? If you already know someone is not upstanding in one area of his position, you can't really rely on him to be upstanding in others either. If that announcement doesn't come tomorrow, I think you should forward that email in its entirety to Member Administration. In that case, the Guide should be fired for attempting to scare folks into purchasing through him.

I guess we will see tomorrow :-)... Im not saying its a rumor or not since I have in writing from a Disney official that it is happening I assume it is. If it does not happen as he said, there may be hell to pay.

Funny thing was.. I was going to buy through Disney until he told me that.

We bought our DVC thru the Timeshare Store a couple of weeks ago (after much procrastination for the reasons you mention). We decided to finally take the plunge on the basis that we couldn't base our decision on rumour, as there will always be rumours and supposition, most of which won't come true. Having just booked a trip in May we couldn't be happier. We have 6 days at Kidani (Sav View), 5 at SSR and 3 at BWV (pref view). Can't wait. :cheer2: If you can afford it and know what you're getting into Go For It! :cool1:

ITA. You should report this guy...even if there is an announcement tomorrow surely they were not supposed to say anything. And if there isn't, well shame on him.

Your guy was right! It was announced this morning...we are in ROFR right now so I'm wondering if we should let the contract go to see how far prices will drop...or keep the contract because we will almost certainly close before Mar 20, and keep the benefits (even if we probably won't use them).

Really, this is a slippery slope. In the short run, this will raise prices (from now until mid-February). After that, resale prices may drop, but the demand to Disney for direct purchases will increase.... so that increases the probability that a low priced resale will be ROFR'd. If a buyer is predominantly purchasing to stay at the 11 DVC resorts (which includes Hawaii, GCV, VB and HHI) or trading in to RCI, then the personal value of the points via resale really won't change considerably after March 20. I suppose it all comes down to whether your plan was to flip your resale or use it until expiration. If you planned to use it, I'd go through with the purchase.

Yes, my DH points out that we thought the price was good before the announcement, and nothing has really changed for us so we should just keep it.

We'll be grandfathered in so im going through. Seems they just tanked the resale market though.

What my agent said and I do find odd is, why was this released in this manner and not with any specific disney people quoted or an official release?
