My son and I were in WDW in June. I listened to what they had to say about the DVC. I took the whole tour but did not purchase. Now I want to.

What should I watch out for when purchasing other that making sure I can afford it?

Can I ask for anything additional such as more points, fast passes, etc? When I was down there he offered to give me an additional 100 points. This time I want to go for the 160 point package.

The best thing that you can do for yourself is take the time to read the DVC threads here on the DIS. Any questions that you may have, have been asked and answered many times before.

Good luck as you start you new adventure. :goodvibes

Give and Disney don't go hand in hand. They may have offered to sell you a 100 point initial buy-in or free one time use developer points, but they wouldn't have increased your total purchase by any point amount.

There are set incentives offered from time to time, but other than those, there's no negotiation involved in DVC sales. So if there are "extra points" (these are commonly called "developer points"), you'll get them but if they aren't offering that incentive, you won't.

That said, there is a wealth of information on the DVC boards here (particularly on the Operations board), so I'd start reading. :)

The additional 100 points was an incentive that was being offered at the time you took the tour. That incentive may not be available anymore. It never hurts to ask for incentives. They just may not have any to give you. Definitely ask your guide for what is available.

Here's a link to the DVC News with information about current incentives and pricing. I know that the VGC prices show on that website are different that what was offered this week at the VGC webcast. There are threads about those new amounts on this board.

Also if you read through these boards you'll see that many people recommend buying resale as the price is often better. I'd check out both, call my guide and check the resale lists. We did this earlier this month when we wanted to do an add on at AKV. Ended up bidding for a resale contract as it was at least $9 per point lower than what DVC was offering. Even paying for closing costs, it was a better deal (we got the full 2009 points so that was the same as the DVC offered).
