Hi all,

Amy and I will be heading to CA for New Year's Eve and a show up in Sacramento. We are bouncing around a few ideas which include DL.

I know that WDW has surpassed Time Square for crowds. We have been at Jackson Square for New Year's so we have been in crowds that you can walk on.

How is DL? How's the party? Is it still Christmas decorations?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Kilted Candyman,

My wife and I are doing NYE at DL this year. From all of the reports I have read, it will be very busy but at the same time those who have done it in the past have said having a plan and set expectations makes a huge difference for your trip. As far as the party, we plan to do the actual New Years Eve countdown in DCA due to the adult beverages ;)

And yes, the holiday decorations stay up until January 6th.

we have done DL NYE for since 2007 and while I always say I will never do it again, we always do and we always have a great time. With that said, it is CRAZY,INSANE BUSY!! Plan on getting there early and staying there all day.

You will see that there are people camping out for their spots on Main Street in the Hub from about 9am on. The park does reach capacity and does close to new entry early in the day. We have been there at times when people are in the front entrance gates waiting for people to leave so they can enter.

With all of that, it is a great place to countdown to the New Year. There is a band on stage in Tomorrowland, and stages set up near IASW , and in front of the castle. Dancing and fun for all ages. Party hats and horns are given out in designated areas, for the past few years its been in Big Thunder Ranch.

We have never ventured over to DCA for the celebrations but yes, they have the adult bevereages!

The nicest part of NYE at DL is New Years Day...the crowd is always light and after the 2nd...the park is really light!

Have a wonderful time and prepare for the craziness....its all about the planning. If you attend knowing that the crowds are big and are there for the fun...you will have a great time!

I'm THINKING DCA might out number DL for the number of guests this year for the NYE countdown! Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

We're going for the first and probably only time this year. My daughter's birthday is NYE and we have always wanted to do something big on her real birthday. Most years we just sit at home and have a cake and presents with just my parents and then any "party" she may have usually had to wait till AFTER the holidays. So I told her that this year since she is becoming a teen we would do something special. We are driving down the Sat before and doing other stuff but will be to the resort by the night before. We plan to get to the parks somewhat early and don't count on doing too many rides. We are taking her to Blue Bayou for dinner and cake and then just going to find somewhere to camp out till midnight. :)

We don't plan on going to the parks on new year's day but rather going up to pasadena to view the floats after the parade (and we have slept in a bit LOL) and then we are going back the 2nd through the 5th. I am a bit nervous about that too though since most schools are off till the 7th. But we will do our best.

Anyone know how "late" you can get there in the morning before getting in becomes an issue? Since we will be there till midnight I was hoping to not have to get there when it opens but maybe around 10ish? I would go at opening and leave to take a nap but I don't think we would get back in.

Okay, go with me here...

Picture Main Street.
Good. Now, add a lot of people.
No, more people.
Okay. Good.
Now, double the amount of people you have pictured.
All on Main Street.
Now, in your vision of double the amount of people, see those little empty spaces? No, no, not the ones that could fit 3-4 people. Those empty spaces don't exist.
That empty space, there. The one that might, maybe fit a person.
Yeah. That one. Put two people there. Plus their stroller with a little person.
Oh, what? There's still a tiny little spot that you can move without touching someone? Sorry.
Put a person there.

Okay, now you've got Main Street. NYE. Disneyland.

Honestly.

You won't believe me.
You'll say I can't handle crowds (I can.)
You'll say I'm not as tolerant as you are (I am.)
You'll say you love Disney more so it won't be as bad (I am THE Disney fan.)
You'll go (because we all have to go just to see it for ourselves).
And you'll never go again. (Maybe DCA or off Main Street, but not Main St.)
But you will have spent a NYE at DL on Main Street. And you will know. :goodvibes

Enjoy! pixiedust:

- Dreams (who never believed it could be THAT crowded --- but it was! But you have to do --- once.)

Thanks all.

I've been in crowds. Mardi Gras, New Year's Eve in NOLA and others. The New Year's one was so bad that the police horses were panicing. You could walk completely around Jackson Square without touching the ground :D The officers said the crowds were on Mardi Gras level. Just our luck.
