Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

Living in a tourist town (Stratford) I see all kinds of U S Visitors (plenty of American Theater visitors) who drive down one way streets and often no use of blinkers as if they dont know where they are going, which they probably don’t. Under no circumstances would or should I or anyone tell these people to go home. It would be ignorant and inexcusable. That border guard should be fired immediately, as if it was a Canadian border guard doing that to an American visitor I would be embarrassed and also want him fired
Which is why I said 'make no mistakes, what he said was wrong'. There's still a story behind it and I would love to know the whole thing. It's not fair for us to be yelling foul at the things that are wrong and yet ignore what causes the problem. Doesn't make the situation right but there is a reason.
Again, JMO.

Please don’t think that I was criticizing you. I know what you meant. I think the reason that the person would not reply to the media was that she did not want to jeopardize admittance to the States at a future date out of vindictiveness. I apologize if I offended you

When I was living in Edmonton, I was driving to university one morning when all of a sudden the traffic ahead of me just came to a screeching stop. The issue was a car with US plates not having a clue about how to enter and navigate a traffic circle (roundabout). A couple of the drivers behind that car got out and while one of them was talking to the driver, presumably coaching them on how to drive through the circle, the other guy went out into the circle, stopping the oncoming cars momentarily so that our stricken driver could get on his way. The kindness of that event still says with me 50 years later. How many of us would have just laid on the horn and let our anger rage? I have always tried to take this lesson forward whenever I get behind the wheel.

Another 51st state comment today and another sector tariff (timber and cabinets). I had thought a trade deal would get done when I booked a cruise out of Port Canaveral for March break. Hopefully it will but I feel more guilty. We needed a warmer vacation and have to go during March break so a vacation to the U.S. or a cruise was more affordable than a decent all inclusive.

This is not your burden. You did your part!

Absolutely no point in beating yourself up over this. I can appreciate the situation of those with kids and families who want to go see Mickey. Luckily I am not in such a situation. Our family went to Disney 10 or 12 times over the years when our kids were the right age and the last few times it was just DW and me. We can wait to go back but we are nearing our 70s so I wonder if we ever will, lol. You just never know. Maybe our kids can push us around in our wheelchairs if we do.

I don't think a trade deal is coming honestly.

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some trans-Atlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us with a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring from amongst us, it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we ourselves must be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we must live through all times, or die by suicide." - Abraham Lincoln, (Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Disneyland)

I assume most of you have seen portions of That Man's address to the US generals and admirals. He was clearly trying to prepare the senior officers for what amounts to a war with US citizens. Republicans claim that the danger from US citizens is so severe that the military must be sent in to American cities to restore order. The reality, of course, is that it is That Man and his followers who are the danger that must be fought.

The only positive sign that I saw during the speech was that the generals and admirals weren't exactly swept off their feet by the words of Hegseth and That Man. But, I fear that most of That Man's followers are crazy enough that they will support using the military to crush the supposed Democrat lead revolt.

I signed the 2024 movie Civil War out from the Edmonton Public Library and watched it. In one review I read, the reviewer said that it was an excellent movie which the reviewer had absolutely no desire to watch again. I agree with that assessment: it is an excellent movie, but disturbing on many levels. With each passing day, the events that took place during that movie become more and more plausible.

Alas, during the next few years, we all may all witness the words of Mr. Lincoln coming to pass...
