I'm sure anyone else would think I'm crazy.

I got an email through the Cirque Club announcing interviews for temp jobs while Quidam is in town. I have been thinking for a long time how cool it would be to work for them. Yes, I'm a professional, and yes I'd probably make about 1/6th of what I'm making now. BUT, I've only got jobs booked through next week, and this other job would start right after. I dream every day of having a low-stress responsibility-free job again. The jobs are ushers, concession, merchandise, and something else I can't remember. I would probably pass on the concession one, but I am seriously thinking about the others, especially if I could do the ushering. I really need a change of scenery. I want to do it just for fun, kind of a "just to say I did it" scenario. Would you do it if you had the time and could afford it? (not to mention I can procrastinate getting another "real job" for another month or so :teeth: )

I can't imagine what my clients and old co-workers would think if they saw me working there... poor girl, it's come to this. lol :jester:

Oh, and I thought you were going to say that you are secretly a high wire artist, or trampoline gymnast, or a trapezee acrobat . . .:o :o

Me too. I think ushering sounds too boring for you.

Well it's good to know I lead an interesting life, if only in the minds of other people! :p

All kidding aside..... and I don't know your specifics...

But if veterinarian medicine is anything like human medicine... taking time off for non work related reasons could be viewed by future employers negatively.

If I am totally off base with my concerns, then please ignore me.

I say go for it!!!

You can only regret the things in live that you didn't do.

A besides that, if you hate it ...You can quit!

From these boards, I know you are a people person and I think you would have a blast.;)

Just my 2 cents

You do have a point. But, I've been out of work (now temping) for so long that it's way past looking bad. :( Anyway, I'm thinking that I will still be needed 2 days a week at my current clinic, so it might entail working every day for a month or so, but I don't know the specifics. I don't think I'd be up for that if it were a full-time gig. Just a thought. But, if I'm not needed past this week (things are up in the air due to the owner's health), then it will be better than wasting the month (like I wasted the summer after graduation when I could have gotten a Disney internship but passed on it thinking I needed to go ahead and get a REAL job, then wound up not finding a job by the end of the summer anyway).

I think it's not going to pan out, but it gives me something to think about :)

Hey - a job is a job - and who says it can't be a "fun" one?

If it's something you would enjoy then I say go for it - and who cares what anyone else thinks? Are professionals supposed to not have any "fun" in their lives?

I think I'd go for the ushering too.. I have a close friend (who incidentally has a teaching degree and her DH is a highly regarded superintendent of a very large school district) who ushers at a musical theater here and no one has ever given her or her DH any grief over it..

Have a blast! :)

I'd say go for it! I think it'd be a blast - If you don't have steady employment in your chosen field & you take a job outside your field, how can anyone look down on that? You gotta do what you gotta do - & if you can make it fun, all the better!
Keep us posted...

You never know where this could lead. Contacts you can make. Life is to short to not go for what you want.

What is your real passion in life? Disney, Animals if you can have the best of both worlds, why not do the cirque thing and then try to be on call for the Disney Kennel Club???

If you don't ask, you'll never know. What's holding you back? Get off the internet and make the call!

I say "Go for it" too. This is the time in your life when you can do this kind of thing...you can always talk your way around it in interviews for your next "real" job. How I wish I had done certain things BEFORE having children, while I had the chance. I hope my kids take advantage of unique opportunities that come their way.

I also say if you think the change will make you happy then go for it. There is nothing wrong with expanding your horizons even if it is not a professional position. If asked why you did it by prospective employers be honest...that you wanted to try something new, even if it wasn't considered "professional work". And like others have said, it will give you the opportunity to meet new people.

Thats a shame, that you are thinking of giving UP on the Veterinary field. We have a friend of ours, who Son Graduated in June and put in Resumes ALL over, from Pa, where he lives, all the way to Washington State. It took him this long to get a response, but he might be getting a Job in Seattle. Right now, he is working at a Private Vet in the Farm area of Pa. Its about an Hours drive from where he lives, but he LOVES it!;)

I don't think she is giving up on the vet field, but supplementing it...

BTW, Doc Rafiki, the University of Pennsylvania was hiring vets a while back. Yes it would entail a relocation, but think its an IVY league school..... the benefits there are outstanding. My DH interviewed with them in an IT position, and we have many friends that work there.

As for supplementing the income, do what you love. Many many people can not find work in their chosen field..

My friend who is a podiatrist (DPM), would love nothing more than to do crafts, and work at craft fairs.. but the large debt of school, house, etc... makes her continue working. She has to work to pay off the debt (the debt is larger than her house payment)

I also think you should go for it, Jen! There's no blueprint that says you have to do everything a certain way, or in a certain order.

And BTW, when I saw your thread title, I was thinking "Wow, Jen must have some strange talent, like being able to tie her body in knots, or something!" LOL!

Sounds like it would be a great opportunity for you! I say go for it :)
